The more I read on the SUB2000, the more I wish I had bought one back in the day!

Interesting responses fellas.

I can just see Dan lugging around the Dog Fatha!!!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I want one of the DFCG's!!!!

...temporary hijack:

I've had a Sub2000 for a couple of years now. I've run it past 1000 rounds without cleaning and when I started to get a little hang up in the lock-up/trigger, a shot of lube cleared it right up.

I love the Sub2000 for exactly what it is. It isn't a battle rifle and it isn't war fighter. It's a niche carbine that extends your pistol - and give the circumstance, it just might be enough. I never mind having it around. Mine handles the G17 mags so it also likes the G33 mags as well.

One of my best friends bought one after shooting mine.

...back on target...

If you guys are interested in pistol-caliber carbines like the SUB 2000, you might also check out Beretta's version, the CX4 Storm. Very similar in concept. It doesn't fold, but it does have a lot of other interesting features.

My XD-40 (40 S&W) which I do own, and a Scrapper 6 when I get one some day. I've got a large Sebenza so it would have to do until I purchase my first fixed blade.

1 Handgun and knife.... probably a Sig P226 and my HCLE, but this may change, depending on my mood at the time.

Normally, I'm not one for pistols, I'd much rather have either my Lee Enfield .303 or Marlin 30-30 over a pistol anyday of the week.

You are right. the Storm is the best 9mm carbine on the market, however, you pay for it... Its nearly double what the SUB2000 costs. Kel Tex has a warranty that is to be reckoned with too... BUt there is no ? that the Storm from Beretta is the ticket in the 9mm carbine realm.

you are carrying one of the best folders ever created. Hang on to it. However, you are right, the S6 will replace it when you snag one man. One of the best combat/survival knives i have ever owned or held. Glad to have you on the Yard. Nothing beats this place.

Well yeah. It's Beretta. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

HiPoint also makes a 9mm carbine (the model number escapes me) in the 200$-or-less range if we're exploring all the price points for a given item. US-made, too. Some say it's attractive in a pragmatic way...I say it's just ugly in an ugly way. Your mileage my vary.

Pistol caliber carbines are an interesting beast all around. Controversial, too. A lot of wildly varying opinions can be had with a bit of web searching.

I shot a HiPoint, for a 9mm it is big, way bigger than my XD9SC. More recoil as well.

The Beretta Storm is a nice little carbine. BUT -

It doesn't pack down at all, and is half again as heavy as the Sub-2000. The whole point of the small folding carbine design is to have an easily transportable extension to a pistol. If I'm going to carry a full-size carbine (especially for the weight and price of the Beretta), why not just carry my AR-15?

For me, the Sub fits into a particular niche and price point that the other carbines don't.

All fine points. You could modify the CX4 to have a similar stock, but by the time you're done with that, you're spending time on top of money when there's an off the shelf option ready to go.
