Hi All,

It's been fun the last few months. First I got a few Swamp Rats. That was followed by a few Busse's - one in hand and a few on order. Today I bought my first SY - a mint DF LE on the BF exchange. Should be in my hands some time next week.

Still a newbie to the Bussekin family but looking forward to contributing where I can.

I'll need a sheath for the DF and see SY has two for sale, one kydex and one nylon. Is one of those sheaths better than the other? Let me know what you have and why. I value everyone's input and would particularly like to hear from those that have both sheaths.

Thanks,

Neal

Congrats. Buy from Rainwalker on here. He is THE BEST in the business, hands down. He makes perfect sheaths for Dogs and Hogs and Rats. Buy from Jeff. Class act fellow too. Not to mention, he is from the great state of Tennessee!!!

Oh yea, Jeff makes BOTH , leather and kydex. I like his leather the best.

I have a DFCG coming here within about 2 weeks and I cannot wait! I hear its one of the best choppers ever made. Total brute strength at your hands from what the boys on The Yard say.... They will comment better on it shortly, I am sure.

But for real, buy your sheaths from Rainwalker. Again, welcome to The Yard.

There are other sheet makers whose production could be seen from time to time in the forum. Their sheaths are of a different style than those of Jeff and are good too. You may take a look at Okuden sheaths at <http://www.okuden.net/> and Martin's ones at <http://martinsheaths.blogspot.com/>.

Rainwalker makes great sheaths. I just received two from him. If you want top quality, have the money to spend, and aren’t in a hurry, that’s the way to go.

But there’s nothing wrong with the Scrap Yard sheaths. I have the Cordura and the kydex sheaths to fit the Dogfather. They both give good service. I have a Cordura for a Dogfather, and one for a CGFBM. I also have a First Position Kydex for my Dogfather LE.

One unusual point about the First Position Kydex sheaths is that they have open throats. That can be a good thing. Or not. It sure makes is easier to find the sheath with the point of such a long knife. You don’t have to grab the tip of the blade and feel around for the sheath’s opening. On the other hand, I live in rainy country. If I’m wearing a first position sheath belted to my outer layer of clothes, that wide throat acts as a funnel and channels raindrops onto the knife. This is easily fixed by wearing the sheath inside your slicker. But of course you have to open your rain shell every time you need to draw or resheath your Dogfather.

Then again, every time you take your knife out in the rain, it’s going to get wet anyway. Your pays your money and you takes your choice.

Welcome to the Yard, triplem.

I don't have either sheath, but for the price the SYKCO store sheaths are hard to beat. I've heard nothing but good things about the Cordura. Sound's like Implume gave a good description on the kydex.

Good luck with your choice.
