This came outa nowhere in my sister's backyard. Do we kill it before it procreates or start drinking JW Blue??

Ok...I think I figured it out. It looks like balsam apple. The seeds of which are slightly poisonous, so keep kids and pets away. That help? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I'll agree with Mr. Wayne: balsam apple. Everything I'm seeing says that not only are the fruits slightly on the toxic side, but it's also an aggressive weed. I'd say you're better off without one unless you really like looking at weird alien pods in your back yard.

thanks for the lead, guys. looks like it's the balsam pear, which i never would have known. the "bitter gourde" is a member of the squash family and the skin is edible.
