As some here will know. I do test my knives on deer, so the pic's below might disturb some <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> . If so look away.

The LE did all I asked of it, so in general I'm very happy with the results. It held it's edge with NO sign of dulling nor did it show ANY sign of chips or dings.
When I tested the LE in an earlier thread. I took to it hard, with some minor damage to the blade. But just as another forum member found with his LE & the factory edge. Once a new edge was formed the LE performed like a heavyweight <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> . Go figure.

It's a great caper, no doubt about it. The LE's thick blade did it superbly. I do hear how thick blades don't work as good here, well I question that. IMO it's all about your style & way.

If you're after a tough skinning, capping, boning-out, do it all knife for the bigger critters. I recommend the YKLE, well worth the money$$$!

Nice work, 338!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Although I haven't used mine for that particular purpose, I always figured it'd be a good one for the task. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

338,

Since when did "MEAT" and fur become graphic??? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
There "shouldn't" be any Sheeple "here".... right????? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Like Scrappy said: "Isn't that what knives are for?"

I am going to pretend there are NO Sheeple here. I don't know if I could handle finding out some of my gang here are Sheeples. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" />

I might have issue with those who can't deal with pictures of "MEAT" and processed hides.

People need to get their heads out of their rears and realize that most of us eat meat. It walks around on four legs for some years, we kill it, we process it and we eat it.

I LOVE animals. But, I still eat meat.

This "IS" our life and how most of us live. People need to freakin deal with it.

**** 338 - just to be clear - I am not ranting at you. I am just ranting about the fact that you feel you have to post warnings about pics of meat because (and I feel you and understand) we (all) have to deal with these sheeple all the time day in and day out that can't deal with how meat is "Actually" prepared before served on a plate at a restaurant.

Sheeple are on my S#*T list today. I am getting tired of people getting wide-eyed when I pull out a freakin pocket knife and even a little folder these days.
I got looks for using a freakin machete to help delimb trees while clearing hurricane knocked over trees. Somehow, a machete is 100 times more dangerous and scary to some people than a chain saw. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

It is amazing to me how many people don't even know what to do with a chicken or turkey from the grocery. Most kids probably don't have a clue what they are eating. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

I very much appreciate that my dad took me hunting as a kid and taught me how to "responsibly" kill and process game to "EAT". He taught me how to cook as well. I think it is very important to know how to do it and understand and know what is involved with how we live.

Too many people needing pampering, shelter and security blankets from reality. Makes me nauseous. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

I have been ranting today on another thread about what kids these days do and don't do and what parents do and don't do. Maybe I am a little wound up. sorry. I'll stop now.

Thanks for the review on the YKLE. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Here are some more pic's, this time with more gore & blood <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> . Just ignore the knife in picture, as I wouldn't want anyone to think I was pushing Striders <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Here is my son with one I shot a month or two back. Great little eater.
Just like you, I teach my son all I know about the deer, stalk, butcher etc. He's only 10 but as tough as hell. Last outing we did 10 miles in two days. Up some real bad-@ss hills as well.

How does the YKLE outperform the YKCG, if it does in fact??? Would the ykcg fare the same as the ykle?

I read this wrong first up <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> , so I just deleted that post. Thought it read SnG.

Both perform great, although I prefer how the LE's FAT blade works with my index-finger. The CG is too thin for me here. But the CG has better balance.
We haven't done a full test on the CG, but we did give it a go. All in all, my son prefers the CG, I the LE.

And don't let anyone tell you that FAT blades don't work great on capping, skinning etc. IMO it's all about what fits you & your style, chosen game, GRIND & keep that sucker SHARP.

That's more better 338.

No holding back. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Love to see you teaching your boy how to do it. And LOVE the boy's folder. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> Looks like my favorite EDC. Is that a 710? Looks like the smaller 705 (???).

But, we need to get you a tree to hang the meat from to help keep out the grass and help skin the hide. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

You do skin and process differently...... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

-------

By the way... I had never been interested in the Striders before. Not generally my style. But, something of possible (?????) interest may have caught my attention. (????) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" />

Thanks man <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Yeah it's a 710. Worked great for him(as he just informed me), although I'm not a fan of the axis locking system. We are getting him a Strider PT for his 11th birthday. Smaller, stronger, better ergo's with S30V steel. S30V works great when things nasty(wet & muddy). I didn't wash these two(SnG & MFS) for 3 days. NO RUST or STAINS, not one bit!
I gave my son the DMDC & YKCG, so once he gets this new folder. He'll have everything covered & then some.

Yeah I do process my meat differently, as these deer are as heavy as hell. The one pictured looks small. But I can tell you, there is no way one man can hang this up by himself for quartering. And I'm not a believer in taking any bones. I learnt this technique from a hunter with many more years experience than I. So these days it's the only way I retrieve my meat. The walk out usually(up hill allot of the times) takes between 1-3 hours, depending on how far the truck is.

Here is a bigger boy a shot 5 weeks back. Even this photo doesn't do him any justice. He would of went 550lbs. Took me 3 hunts to figure him out, as smart as hell. For that I respected him greatly. His meat was also pretty good considering he's a stag.
He didn't have the biggest rack but his body is broad with solid thick muscles.

So you can see what I'm dealing with. And it's real tough doing all this trying not to slide down the hill <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> .

A plastic sheet takes care of most of the grass, dirt & crap. But like I said, it's tough on the side of some big hills.
