I need a Hinderer penpal for my new SS4. Which do you think best suits the Scrapper as a sidekick? Blue anodized, or bead blasted Ti?

Never heard of it, but I like blue so I'll go with that.

knowing what you're talking about would help.

I think I would go with bead blasted Ti, it'd match the shiny spine of the SS4, I think.

Rick Hinderer Titanium Extreme Duty Pen (Blue Anodized)...

[Linked Image from i275.photobucket.com]

I pulled the trigger on a flame anodized pen . I hate making quick decisions, but the guilt was creeping up fast and I had to get rid of that awful feeling...

Hm, that's different lookin'. I'd think it would accumulate lint and crud in all those grooves. If you want a pen to go well with the SS4, I'd recommend the Yard pen.

I rarely ever link into Schwag and never noticed the Yard Pen until now. I think I will pick up a coin and shirt...

those hinderer pens always appealed to me.

i bought my old man a "TACTICAL DEFENSE PEN" made by MIL-TAC at the BLADE show.

it figures he lost it the first week he had it and had to then buy his own replacement.

he had been looking for something he could take on planes since he flys weekly.

there are some really nice tactical pens out there now and benchmade has a new one but i havnt really looked at it yet

A few shots of my flame anodized Extreme Duty. I specifically requested one with more brown and gold than blue and purple hues to provide a nondescript, understated appearance. The finish was near flawless as received ...

Pros:
1. Titanium carbide tip of the Fisher refill does double duty as an emergency glass breaker
2. Not quite an AP point, but the Fisher refill tip provides for improved penetration over a closed SureFire Pen.
3. Bullet cap provides the user with an instant compliance tool without the need to remove the cap.
4. Anodized titanium allows for increased strength and corrosion resistance over aluminum based contemporaries.
5. Grooved and fluted body provides for sure handling under duress in both wet and dry conditions.
6. Showcases two ends to strike with when fully deployed with the bullet cap threaded on the end attachment.
7. Standard end cap attachment offers a lanyard hole for secure attachment to most anything.

Cons:
1. Weight and length of then pen when capped requires getting accustomed to when the pen is used as a writing tool.
2. Threads are coarse and certainly feel it. I recall McGizmo mentioning something along the lines of the necessity of coarse titanium threads.
3. The spring tension of the clip keeps it firmly planted on the body of the pen. No problem there. Just that the clip has a tendency to rotate when the cap end attachment is being threaded on, or off. An anodized titanium clip rubbing against an anodized titanium body means the invariable loss of anodize in the end. Workaround? Hold the clip in place while removing and replacing the end cap attachment.

very nice! Where can I order something like that and how much am I expected to pay?

I found the site that carries that pen, the aluminum is more in my price range. Any other companies that make similar pens?

I had only considered the Extreme Duty and the SureFire Pen as worthy sidekicks to the SS4. The Warren Thomas Biop-C was just out of my price range . I already had a MIL-TAC TDP-1 and wanted something different .

you got yourself a nice one there!

I've got a Hinderer Ti pen as well, I ordered mine online without noticing it was blue ink, well in the Mil. blue ink is about as big a F* up as you can do, so I emailed Rick asking what size allen was needed because Ididn't have that either. When he emailed me back he not only told me what size it was, he sent me 2 of them and a replacement refil for free!

I say all of this just to give Mr. Hinderer a plug, he makes a superb pen and backs his product 100%

I'm also waiting to get my hands on the SF pen
