I decided to build myself a small dedicated workbench just for the belt grinder and bench grinder the other day and see how inexpensively I could do it. Since I have spent a small fortune on guns and knives over the last couple of weeks I gotta save somewhere...LOL. Anyway, I almost have my "on the cheap" workbench together for a grand total of $23. It is 34" tall by 49" wide and 27" deep. Built it out of four 2x4s and a 27"x49" piece of 3/4" counter top that I got from a builder's wholesale shop we have here locally. They buy left over pieces of new and scrap lumber from large construction projects and then resale it at a discount.

While I have without a doubt reassured myself that my carpentry skills absolutely suck, I do have a very useable workbench for $23. I did at least get it "square" and it doesn't wobble...LOL!

If any of you have one of these building material resale places in your town, they are a great place to buy stuff that most people do not know about.

Here is a picture of it before I added the bottom shelf which I made from a piece of 15/32" plywood that the guy at the resale lumbar shop pitched in for free when I was leaving. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I'll be painting it tomorrow.

Ban and norcalblacktail built a table similar to that you can see in out chopfest pictures. Nice and sturdy if built correctly, I think it's better then those tiny four legged ones. Good job!

I'm going to have to make something or get something from a yard sale for when I get the belt sander.

Hahaha my dad made an excellent work bench by buying a funky old solid-oak door and putting legs on it. Served us we for almost 20 years. The hinge-brackets look a bit odd, but (like SY knives) the appearance doens't effect performance

I think that's a great idea. Whatever works.
