i've seen quite a few campers wrapped it around the entire knife handle. Anybody else have done this? what useful purpose does it serve?

I did that with my crash axe and a couple small cheap EDCs I have. I found the grip too slippery for when I'm out in wet weather, or wearing gloves in the winter, so I wrapped them with some cord. Also, for those cheap little knives, it bulks up the handle a little better so its' more comfortable to work with. As well on the CA, the D-guard, handle wrap, and lanyard is all one piece. It may sound excessive, but it serves two purposes; secure grip for poor weather, and spare cord, should it ever be needed; say for example, I lose my pack with my normal carry of 100' cord. Chances are very unlikely that I'll lose both my pack AND the axe strapped to my hip and leg. ![[Linked Image from i321.photobucket.com]](http://i321.photobucket.com/albums/nn382/tyger75/PA040274.jpg) P.S. - If you're also curious about the 3 little chunks of wood and the coin on the lanyard. Well, the wood can be broken up and added to any kindling, moss, etc. you find to make a fire in an emergency, and the coin is a lucky 5 yen coin I was given by a Japanese soldier I served with overseas (Not Afghanistan, different tour, same general area of the world, though). It's a good luck piece and so I usually have it with me when I'm in the woods. Sounds kinda corny, I guess.

Thanks, Macgregor; took me a little bit to get this far.
Hopefully, I'll be getting more creative as I learn. I ordered a few new books on knots, wraps, etc., hoping to learn a few new tricks from them. Whatever good comes of them, I'll be sure to share with those interested here in the yard.

Thanks, CnD. I purposely left the D-Guard on the CA loose enough to take a big wooly mitten in the winter, but also so I can reverse the grip and still use the spike on the back. I've tested it a few times, and I can reasonably say that it's comfortable enough for extended hacking and chopping. The cord wrapping also feels a little better in my hand.
CMM, as for the wife... I currently don't have that problem, so I wouldn't know anything about that experience. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

i always use duct tape for the women, there's another product just like 550 that has a million and one uses tyger i've said before i reall like what you've done to your CA and plan on wrapping my handle as well because i do find it a bit slippery. i like wrapping a cord around a handle if the handle has slabs on it for the purpose of making it thicker, grippier or for cold weather. i never liked the idea of just plain para cord wrapped handles though kind of like how some of the striders are.i dont find it comfortable. i understand the idea of then having spare cord but then you've got a knife that hurts to use if you had to chop or use it hard with the cord removed.i also find it not to be very resilient and that the cord itself wears out rather quickly with regular use and laying around in the dirt. it also attracts dirt, grime and moisture and would have to be replaced if used for skinning and soaked in blood.this is why i like to have micarta underneath as opposed to just cord for a handle. you can see in this pic that the ranger entry tool on the top has a cord wrapped handle and thats the way it came and hurt like hell to swing.it just bit into my hands. i sent it back to justin for some slabs and the improvement in control and comfort was through the roof.here it is on the right. ![[Linked Image from i234.photobucket.com]](http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee295/dave9431/image1-15.jpg)

Very nice; I gotta agree, one of the reasons I put the paracord over the micarta on the CA was to improve the way it felt in my hands. I like paracord, I like nice slabs like micarta, but the combination of the two far exceeds what the one alone can do for comfortable handling.
Are those hollow rivets holding the slabs on? Do you plan on put some paracord over the slabs?

yeah its hollow rivets.the lanyard hole already served as one and justin just drilled 2 more.
i dont plan on putting cord on the ranger.for some reason i get a more secure hold so i dont feel the need as much and i dont really use it that much since its an entry tool and anything i need to gain entry to i have a key for.
the CA is also an entry tool but does surprisingly well on wood and camp chores.
but LISTEN HERE.no CA is complete without one of the buy brown sheaths.that thing carries on my hip so sweet now.it carries on my hip better than some knives of shorter length.
