HD, what makes the Bravo-2 worth $60 to $90 more expensive than the SOD LE? Does Bark River put more TLC into that convex grind?

HD, what makes the Bravo-2 worth $60 to $90 more expensive than the SOD LE? Does Bark River put more TLC into that convex grind? Finishing that micarta handle is all hand work, rackemup. And micarta is expensive. The labor in the SODLEs full flat grind is just as much work as a the Bravo's convex. My Bravo was $210 delivered, with sheath. The SODLE will be near $175. So it is more like a $35 difference. By the time you get a sheath, the prices are comparable. If Dan used micarta instead of the molded RES C, he would have to charge at least as much. The real bargains are the SOD CGs, but I like 'em shiny. These are just two models I really wanted. If I had to choose just one, and I didn't have a good camp knife like the Camp Tramp, I'd go with the SOD. Chopping with Res C is easier on my hands.

Alright, I knew I asked the right guy. The slabs never occurred to me when calculating the difference, and then there IS the lack of a sheath with the SYKCO knife. I'm so pumped with apparent superiority of the new SOD that I just ordered an LE AND a Desert Tan! By the time they arrive I will have had some experience with my SA180 and guess what I'll do with them SODs!

Did not mean to say that the Bravo-2 is not worthy. In fact, I would jump on it as my first Barkie. All I know is, I'm going to have to get a second job. This last couple of months has been foreplay. I've just hit the gusher with my two SODs!

Well, when I ordered the Bravo-2, I was just sure that the next Scrapper would be the Scrapper 7, not this big wide beautiful short Dog Father. I'll learn to trust Renee more. She said we would love it. Thank God I'm not crazy about the new NMSFNO. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, but HD, the S7 would have been only a half inch shorter. What's the diff, other than a superior steel?

I believe the S7 prototype didn't have a thumb ramp, had the rounded style choil and was "pointier". I'd call the DF and SOD blade design somewhat more traditional.

It's not the length difference, it's the width. I held the S7 prototype at Blade 2007. It was like the S6, only longer. It was a very nice knife, but not all that different than the S6. The SOD is more of a camp knife chopper with a very wide blade. I just preferred the Bravo-2 to the S7 because I liked the pretty handle and blade geometry a bit more. As far as steel, A2 holds a great edge and is plenty tough, if not quite as tough as SR77. Superior steel depends on which measure of performance you value more. Having used both, I like the edge holding of A2 a little better. I still like the S7, but I like the SOD a lot more.

As far as I'm concerned, the problem with numbered LEs is that I want a specific # (I've got #60 in both DMLE and BDLE, so I'd like to continue the trend). I think JYDs should be able to request their number when ordering if desired. A kind of "thank you for participating in the forum enough to be a JYD" kind of thing. Then later JYDs who didn't get in on the coin deal would still have something to look forward to. I think it would encourage sales/forum posting too.
