Seems we like hitting stuff with them and having lots of Dan knives in our homes to choose between.. Sounds fair to me!

Cause I can afford to use them. It is having a taste of the "high end" knives with out "high end" prices.

Honestly, I stumbled onto Busse and Swamp Rat knives when looking for a good survival type knife and it just so happened that Scrap Yard was just about to release the S6. So initially I had to decide between the S6 and M6 and I went with the S6 because it was cheaper and I liked the idea of the Resiprene C grip better. Now I am hooked! I have bought and will continue to buy them to use them hard. If I don’t like a model I won't buy it because I don’t have any real interest in collecting them. I buy them because I can justify swinging a $139 quality piece of steel at hard objects but I wouldn't feel as comfortable swinging a $400 piece of a little better quality steel at hard objects.

I like rugged field knives, especially big ones. Having used most of the major brands at one time or another, I've been buying mostly Ontario lately. They perform well and are inexpensive. When I heard about a Busse made knife of very tough steel with a "rubber" handle, for less than $200, I had to check it out. For extented chopping, a handle with some shock absorbtion lessens hand fatique. After putting the Dog Father through its paces the last few days, I am sold on Srap Yard Knives. I love the Respirine C handle and the easy to sharpen, tough steel. This is a well designed, well made knife of the highest quality for a fair price.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

My first SYK was the SS4 and the thing that convinced me to buy a knife that was more expensive than any other one I had owned was if I did not like it I could sell it and get my money back. Well I was so impressed I kept it and I have bought a DF and a M6 as well. I would have prefered the S6 to the M6 but it was even cheaper than an S6 was new and came with one of Leatherdogs sheath.

I buy knives with the intention to use em. Sooner or later they will get the abuse they were made for. Collecting indestructible knives or buying them as an investment makes me ill. It reminds me of city folks who keep animals (especially dogs)in their apartments 24-7. Or guys who own Hummers but never take them off road.

After careful consideration, I chose "very important" in both using and investing.
Where else can you buy truly hard-use knives, made of INFI or SR-77, and with a heat treatment that you can trust, for $140? Users? Sure. But if that doesn't count as a wise investment, I don't know what does.
Collecting? I probably should have chosen "very important" on it as well. I plan to get all I can!
