Andy, our prayers are out to Sallie as well, I hope everything will go well.

Sallie didn't eat anything yesterday, so Mom decided we should bring her in to the vet today as soon as they open. She thought we should go ahead with the surgery before she got any weaker.
The vet called us a little before noon. He said she had cancer. The largest tumor was 6-8" long, and that's what was pushing on her guts so she couldn't eat. He said it was everywhere inside, so thick he couldn't find the source, and she was beyond anything he could do. He said she would only grow weaker, starve to death, and have the combined pain from the surgery, so Mom had them put her to sleep. We'll be picking up her body to bury in a few hours. We still don't know what they'll charge us for the surgery, but we're hoping it's on the lower end of the quote.
My Mom has been crying all day. She has high blood pressure and is diabetic, and I'm worried about her from the stress. This was very fast and unexpected. Mom was crying and saying she didn't even hug her goodbye before we left, because she thought this would be routine. Then when Mom left her, she said she was barking at her not wanting her to leave.
We called Dad at work and told him. He's going to start digging her grave when he gets home. Myself, I am still in shock and feel disconnected. And of course I feel very sad and depressed. I see reminders of her everywhere I look. She was my best friend and daily companion.
Please keep my family in your prayers as we deal with the sudden unexpected loss of Sallie. Thanks guys. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Andy,
I just finished showing the x-rays to one of the veterinary pathologists I work with.
From the x-ray she concluded the same thing as your vet. The intestines were pushed too far to Sallie's rear, spleen enlarged, intestines inflamed/puffed up.
She said the spleen enlargement could be caused by any number of things, that a tumor/cancer in such a young dog was rare, but certainly possible.
I just wanted to let you know, because sometimes a second opinion can be a little comforting.
You guys did the right thing by putting Sallie down. Sallie is in a better place.
I am very sorry for your loss.
Brad

Andy - I am really sorry to hear the news, but you folks did the right thing even though it was a painful decision. In time, fond memories of her will replace the hurt you are feeling now. I know, as I have gone through the same thing. Best wishes for you and your family. Tom
