I think anyone who has a BDLE has thought the same! I would jump all over a set of SYK mudder gripped kitchen knives. I have a few Shun knives in VG-10, but a set of SYK 154 CM would be complimentary in every way. Most of us have plenty of tacticals, choppers and EDC fare (I know I do), but I doubt many of us have a proper kitchen set. Moms, girlfriends and sisters need SYK love too. Bring it on!

to each his own, i suppose. we will see which direction Dan goes in and I trust that his decision will be what is best for scrap yard.

I never suggested in any way that SY stop making hard use knives. But they have the 154CM steel and it is excellent for holding a sharp edge. It would be oustanding for kitchen knives. If you look at the prices of some of the very fine kitchen cutlery that is made of steels inferior to 154CM you might be surprised at what they charge. The Res C mudder handles are great, too. I just thought it might be one way to use that steel.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

That would be a great idea since my XXXL Nick was stolen from my truck. It made one of the best food prep and camp knives that I had owned.

Horn Dog I like the way you think.

I think that Dan sticking to sr77 only would just be close minded knife making.
why ONLY make super tough hard use knives, when you can have both ends of the spectrum?
I think the 154cm knives up hold Dan's promise of "maximum performance to price ratio" very well and he should continue to produce them.

but!
to each their own.

...Dan, stick to your guns Boss...

If Dan decides to make kitchen knives (because he WANTS to) then those are his guns.

I couldn't agree more Vic. My Bird is over the top sharp and STAYS that way! It is a superb design for so many tasks from a lightning quick razor sharp Fighter to a slice it all in the kitchen. I wear mine every day and like I have said so many times I sound like a broken record it is a fantastic knife.

No I would never see SR-77 going away..it IS The Steel of The Yard. But this foray into the choice of custom knife makers on hand made knives to grace mudder handles it is a perfect marriage. I don't think if my Bird was SR-77 it would cut like this 154CM does.

So I am very grateful for the two Limited Editions I own. But if they offered more for kitchen use I would be no let me rephrase that MY BRIDE would be all over it. She'd beat me to the Pay Pal screen if they did. She really loves my Bird and often when I am in the kitchen she will ask for it so matter of factly just like it was one of HER kitchen knives!

I should stay out of the kitchen!

Peace.

I'm somewhat indifferent about this, although If I had a nice Mudder handled Scrapper or two in the kitchen, I'd probably grow quite fond of using it very quickly I'm sure.

So how does this translate to Busse Combat in terms of conversation? Is Jerry making straight INFI knives somehow "close-minded knife making"?

It's not about being "close-minded".

If either brother (or anyone for that matter) was making things or using materials they didn't want to in order to make others happy, then hopefully there's a good reason... like sustaining a business.

I respect that. I mean, how many legit films have I made compared to the wedding videos I had to do when I was starting out? Often you have to do what you have to do.

However, if Dan or Jerry wanted to make kitchen knives made of 440 stainless, that's what they should do. Not because it's demanded of them, but because they own knife companies and enjoy making knives and they do what they love everyday.

How many of us can say that?

If Dan doesn't want to make kitchen knives or use 154cm, then he most likely won't.

We need to stop thinking that the artists we admire "owe" us something.

They don't.

If he thinks it's a good idea, that's cool with me... even though it shouldn't matter what I think.

Actually, I could spec any brand of plumbing fixture, window type, door size, etcetera, for the homes I build, but tend to base my decisions upon what my clients ask for. Like Bussekins products, what I offer is not inexpensive by any means. It is my initial investment, my business, my decision. But I do it for the people to house the people. And happily, for that matter. That is the way I see it.
