I know that SY is famous for the very rugged SR77 outdoor use knives. But I can't get over how handy and nice the little Bird Dog is in the kitchen. The steel is so much better than my other kitchen knives, and that mudder handle is perfection. Would it be weird to ask for a series of mudder handled 154CM kitchen knives? Those are the knives most of us use daily. A butcher, parers, slicers, chefs, boning, and steak knives made that way would surpass even the fine German cutlery. Just a thought.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I will take one of each. If not all of those at least a paring knife and chef knife would be cool.

I don't think that's at all weird (except perhaps the steak knives). What's weird to me is seeing how many people use uber-thick Bussekin knives for food prep. Kitchen knives should typically be thinner slicing blades. A DF might replace a cleaver, but I wouldn't choose it for slicing tomatoes.

I've been after a set of steak knives for awhile now.....maybe someday?
When you care enough to use only the best...stick'em with a SKYCO knife.

I think it would be a good idea, but only if they made them to be true kitchen knives. While I love my Bird Dog LE, and it does work well in the kitchen as well as outdoors, I would prefer that if the Yard did do a run of "kitchen" that they be even thinner than the BDLE. Full flat grind, supeer thin slicers in 154CM with mudder handles would be good.
For some reason though I have a feeling that knives such as these will never be produced by SYKCO. It just isn't their game. Maybe the military will ask them to do a run of kitchen knives like we are talking about, and we could all have a shot at the left overs...LOL
What I could see them maybe doing some day is coming out with 1 maybe 2 knives as a "kitchen" or "food prep" set around Christmas time as a way for some of us to make a knife peace offering to our wives for putting up with us spending so much money on knives. Here you go honey, I was thinking of you too and wanted to get YOU some knives that would make your time in the kitchen a little easier and more enjoyable.

I forget who, but I seem to recall seeing a post where someone wanted an INFI place setting; I can't imagine INFI forks and spoons being cost effective, but it just goes to show how far some folks go to embrace their passions.

Actually, I was thinking of using the 1/8" stock.

I disagree with Vic here.
I hope that SYKCO does not start using 154CM in their knives regularly. I hope that they keep up using what they have built their company on; SR77. Just my feelings.

i just dont think that SY was envisioned to ever make kitchen cutlery. this company was made to produce Busse-line knives at affordable prices for us hard users of the toughest knives out there.

I think scrapyard should use any steel they can get. there are so many great steels out there, why limit your choices? they should start making a larger variety of knives IMO.
they are supposed to be using left over steel aren't they?

I say stick with what has made you and brought you to where you are. BUILD UPON THAT by continuing to bring us lots of SR77, THEN, once the level of knives you built your business on is up past par and there are knives in the company store all the time, THEN perhaps branch out, but always continue to stick to what made you who you are. Dan, stick to your guns Boss. SR77 all the way!
