After looking at Horn Dogs picks of his stripped SYs for so long I decided to give it a try. I got this Dogfather from a friend of mine over the weekend and thought it would be a good candidate. Still got a lot more work to do, doing all the polishing by hand. Tommorrow I'm going over to a friends house and I'll give convexing it a shot. What do you guys think so far? ![[Linked Image from i194.photobucket.com]](http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z112/artrover/DSC04255.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i194.photobucket.com]](http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z112/artrover/DSC04256.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i194.photobucket.com]](http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z112/artrover/DSC04262.jpg)

Looking good! You planning to go for a full convex from the spine down, or just the edge?

220 grit, 600 grit, Mother's metal polish, and Flitz. This is my first try at this so any advice on good polishes to get it to mirror would be great.

Looks great...convexing the edge on a grinder? You can take a lot off on a grinder so I hope it goes OK...might be easier to buy a leather paddle and compound and just work the edge that way for a convex edge?
Let us know how you get on and good luck!

Flitz, of course <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> . I'll pick some up at Ace Hardware tomorrow, give it a go on my Porter-Cable 7424 and see how things turn out...

MRpink, I'm curious about the differences between the full convex grind and just having the edge convex ground. Other than the physical differences between the two, what would the advantage of a full convex grind be over just the edge being convex? Would there be added strength or edge retention or something along those lines? I've always wondered about the differences. Thanks. DotD Looking good! You planning to go for a full convex from the spine down, or just the edge?
