Hi All

Received these 2 new knives in the mail last week. No, unfortunately it's not mine. My brother ordered them - the BRKT Mini Skinner is a gift for my father and the Fallkniven A2 is my brother's new camp knife.

Here are a few size comparison shots:

Mini Skinner:

The Mini Skinner is a great size and fits perfectly in the front zipper pocket of my dad's Maxpedition waterbottle carrier. It's a beautiful little knife and looks handmade due to some small imperfactions that gives it a lot of character. It has a very sharp full convex grind blade. This is a real alternative to a big folder for EDC.

A2:

The A2 is a big knife and is very well made. It also has a convex ground blade and came out of the box very sharp. It has a nice "hamon" where the different laminated steels meet. The grip is quite nice but not as comfortable as my Dumpster Mutt and due to the fine grains might cause hotspots when used for long periods. The grip is also a tad small, but perhaps that's just me. Overall a very, very nice blade. It's quite thick, but not as thick as the ASH, and not as heavy, although it looks to have about an 8 inch blade compared to the ASH's 6.5 inches.

Nice knives! The mini-skinner looks like a really useful size and it's a very pretty little knife. I don't own any Fallknivens but have heard they are quite durable. Be interesting to see how the A2 performs versus the new SOD.

Congrats on the new knives Gideon!! I have been meaning to grap a Fallkniven H1 out of their new 3G steel. I would like to see how well it cuts and how long it keeps its edge. Keep us posted on how they perform.

Nice blades, Gideon!

I never thought of the A2 as being that big, it does look similar in size to what I imagine the SOD to be. I'd be interesting to see those two side by side...

Gideon,

That A2 looks huge!
Kraz and RW are both wondering if the A2 would stand up to the SOD.

I've tried light chopping with both my A1 and my Scrapper6, and from
my non-scientific, non-biased viewpoint, I would have to say that
the Scrapper does a better job at chopping. It also feels better in
my hands.

Both are great knives, but I have to go with my Scrapper

Very nice knives Gideon! The A2 DOES have an eight inch blade, 1/4" at the spine and 1 3/8" at the widest point. I weighed mine with my electronic fish scale, and it weighs 14 ounces. I agree that the handle is a hair small, and not as comfortable as Res-C, but the laminated VG-10 blade is quite good and solid. I like mine, but I have a hunch that I will prefer my SOD's over the A2 - will know for sure once they arrive.

Yes, the A2 is big. But, due to the balance it feels light. I do not think it will make a great chopper due to this, but it will make a good camp/survival knife and I've read good things about the steel. The price is also good.

I still prefer the ASH though... I think I will get the BRKT PSK for my kit. Or maybe the Micro Canadian... Aarghh, so many knives and so little time!

I also think if I did not already have the ASH-I would have gotten a SOD. I love the look of it and SR77 is amazing stuff.

The A2 is exactly 370 grams as it comes from the factory. It is less heavier than the Skinny version of ASH (which is somewhere around 430 grams). But in the hand it feels heavier because of the forward balance. It makes a very good chopper for its weight, but not the best for its length. The steel is really good (one of the very few stainless that you can say is good), the only problem of it is that it chips easy, compared to INFI or SR77. The knife itself will stay in one piece under abuse, but without the edge and the tip. But if you don't abuse it, it's really a very good knife. You feel it heavy in the hand, but lightweight in your backpack.

It is one centimeter longer than the SOD (but I think it's less wider).
I posted some parallel reviews with the A2 and the Skinny ASH some time ago and I will post some pictures with the SOD and the A2 after I receive my SOD.
