My issue with rust is if it gets at the tang and weakens it out of user sight.. I had some fine brown powdery rust come/grow out from my S6CG grip(!!) and that is kept oiled or Marine Tuff-cloth treated between uses... I did satin the blade up to the res-C though. However a clean and Kure-rust treat sorted that out and no further problems to report (I sealed the whole ricasso to grip area with Araldite epoxy glue as it sticks to metal like nothing else and is flexible too).
I wouldn't buy Yard LE personally but would home satin the bevels on a user CG Dog knife and NEVER worry about the dreaded tin worm.

I wash my knives in Joy and tap water, dry them and stick them back in their Rainwalker sheaths. To this day I have never had any rust.
I do polish my knives when I get anal about them. I use Maas Metal Polish and make um shine as best that they can. My customs are all stainless steels and they spend most of their time on shelves to be admired and carried in rotation.
I guess we all treasure our non stainless knives in different and special ways. One thing we can all agree on is that we really do LOVE our pretty steel tools.

Interesting that nobody mentioned Renaissance Wax. I use Ren Wax on all my carbon steel blades. I like Ren Wax because it's dry and it leaves a nice, protective finish on both the blades and the handles. I keep dessicants in my knife storage areas and I live in a climate referred to as a "desert on the sea". So rust and corrosion usually aren't much of a problem for me. Hi Bruce- Yes !! we have used this on our meteorite collections ( iron) and it does work very well ( good call) Thanks

I'm with you, PoP. I also use dishwashing liquid to clean my blades. If they need more than that, I use Maas Metal Polish. That's usually all I do to protect my stainless blades. On my carbon steel blades I use Ren Wax as an additional layer of protection. Other than my BOB blades, I don't store my knives in sheaths. And I'd never store a knife in a leather sheath. I've read enough horror stories about staining and corrosion resulting from storing knives in leather sheaths to avoid doing that. I'm also unaware of any knifemaker (or sheathmaker for that matter) who recommends storing knives in leather sheaths. Well I guess now you have Bruce! I've stored my blades both stainless and carbon in leather for years with little or no problems. As long as both knife and sheath are cared for properly IT"S NOT A PROBLEM!!!!! What good is a knife if it's not ready to use when you need it! To me there's no better place to store a good knife, than in a good sheath!

One more comment that's worth mentioning. A lot of times when I've had an issue with rust, the real issue is neglect.
If you neglect your blades and their sheaths and don't care for them properly, then eventually rust may develop somewhere along the way.
So I guess you could say that Rust and Neglect are very good buddies...

+1 on that Jeff! Like I said before, mine are stored in a converted gun cabinet with a dehumidifier rod installed. I don't rely on that thoughl I make sure the blades come out every so often and are played with, checked over, cleaned and oiled.... and then go right back in to their sheaths that have received the same treatment.
