I have waited for a year to get a Becker knife, and already obtained a necker...very nice. I am looking at the BK7 and BK9. I already have 4 7" knives, and don't see the upside of a BK7....other then it's cool. With a 7" SOD, I figure it will out work the BK9 on just about anything. Do any of you fellas with the BK9 find any upside over your 7" SY knives? Of course I want both, but don't want to scare the wife with to many purchases at once if you know what I mean.
Thanks again! AI

AI, I have always loved Becker knives, but I would stake my family's life on the performance of ANY of my Scrap Yard Knives.
To find a upside over SR-77 in real world use...no.
But I am very prejudice!

Welcome AI, I was looking at the Becker Neckers and am not sure where they are made now ? I decided to go with a Swamp Warden for the quality. And on quality I have to agree with what POP has to say. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving !!

I own a BK7, a couple BK10s and a few BK2s (I bought the BK10s and BK2s cleaning out some remaining stock right after Camillus went under). They're good knives, excellent blades in fact. However, so are Scrap Yard knives, and the Res-C handles are much more comfortable than Becker grips (at least they are for me). Additionally, Res-C absorbs impact shock -- if the big knife is a "one or the other" situation for you, I'd recommend looking for a Dog Father over a BK9, although now that they're back in production, the BK9 will cost much less.

I did a quick search, and the new Ka-Bar BK9s appear to have a 9-inch long .188-inch (3/16-inch) thick 1095 Carbon steel blade with an HRC hardness rating of 58-59. Its price is impressively low and it's a very good knife, but I prefer a Dog Father. However, at secondary market prices, it looks like you could probably get three BK9s for the price of a DF CG.

The San Mai Necker was made overseas, but the listings I've found for the other Ka-Bar Beckers claim to be "Made In USA" -- now whether that means manufactured in the US or just assembled and packaged here, that I don't know. The prices I'm seeing might lead one toward skepticism about what "Made" means.

Great info guys.... I sure hope the Beckers are USA made, from all that I have read they are.... but I guess it is hard to tell unless you get a response from someone like Ethan. I bet a post at Blade Forum would get an answer pretty quick.
Ok, so everyone loves their SY....suprise. :-)
The BK9 is tough... but not as tough as a SY... Not close I would think.
The BK9 is sharp out of the box, likely with good blade profile..... is it likely to be a much better slicer then a 7" or so SY? The blade being thinner and I assume different grind would make me think a better pure slicer then the Equal or lesser SY?
The BK9 is a good chopper.... is a 9" BK9 as good of a chopper as a 7" SY?
The BK9 supposedly is pretty good doing detail work even though it has a large blade. Due to blade balance and design, are the SY of similar or slightly smaller length the rival of the BK9?
If you don't chop concrete blocks with regularity, pound your knife through steel, or use it to lift your pickup truck..... is there a significant performance difference between the BK9 and a slightly smaller SY?
Thanks for baring with me... I am prone to overanalyse everything.

My old BK-9 in 0170-6C is a very good chopper. I put a micarta handle on mine. The Beckers are good knives, but not quite as tough as the Scrappers. To answer your question, the BK-9 Combat Bowie will outchop both the Yard Guard and and Yard Hook, as you might expect a 9" blade to do. But the new SOD should give it a run for its money.

Will be real interesting to see how the SOD performs. If it is anything like the DF- you can forget about Becker in m y opinion. But- I am a " little" partial. Plus-I am just not all that sure on the Made in USA part. On the yard I am absolutely sure !!
