I don't know if anybody else will agree with me. But it strikes me that people are more likely to buy something that they know about than something they have only seen pictures of. To that end, perhaps it would be worth shipping out a few "review specimens" of upcoming knives to well known community members or equipment review magazines/sites, that kind of thing. That way they can do some hands-on with the knife, which you, Scrapyard, can then point at as you begin primary distribution and say "Look how awesome this is! You want one."

This will make it so that people can read the buzz about a Scrapyard product, and come the site and see "We will be taking orders for this next month". Instead of the product already being over-and-done from Scrapyard (and going for twice the price on the secondary market) by the time actual reviews start appearing.

I'd be for that too.
Not too sure about having a trial knife shipped out of the U.S. to Canada, but
I bet that Cold One would be able to do something like that.
Actually, I would love to see new knife reviews by the more experienced members
of this community.

OK- sign me up too and I will even pay in advance for mine !! I will take three of each model. Or- you can tell us how many knives you are doing in one year ( roughly) .......we will commit to purchase at least one of each ( probably more) and that puts us on the list as " field testers" . It also guarantees that we receive the first ones issued with numbers on them. I can imagine the JYDs will want a certain number. All these great ideas I betcha Dan is going to be thrilled !! This way he can work 24/7. How about it Dan ?

That would be cool.

My personal vote would be for Horn Dog. He knows how to really work those knives and he has the real estate to do it! I always enjoy his review posts!

I'd sign up or support that too, but I don't think that will ever be in the Busse-kin game plan.

Look at the rush for blades created by Jerry's announcement of new blades on the site and the 'ganzas. Knives fly out of the shop without any "I've handled this and..." reviews. For example: MNFBM, Shiva Rex, Bear Cub HACKs even.

It's just the way it is and with the demand and prices, it is likely to always be. If you want the knives before the secondary markets you just have to watch and be there when opportunities come up, otherwise it's the secondary market and elevated prices.

What I think is foolish is the selling of knives still available in the stores on the secondary markets for more than a new purchase price from the shops. Maybe it's the "I can have it in a few days" feeling rather than the unsure time from the stores.

I'm new to Busse-kin this year but I've been fortunate with 'ganzas and with store availability. I ordered the NMFBM and just didn't think about it til it got here. When it got here then, it was more of a surprise and a rush of INFI.

Same with the SOD - I ordered it and it'll be a pleasant arrival when it gets here.

One knows they will get here.

One thing about the model running for sales now though - if you buy it, don't like it and don't abuse it, it will definitely sell on the secondary market. Flipping for profit may not always be there but getting what you put into it won't be an issue with a little profit most of the time.

My opinion. YMMV

Momaw, a great idea!

Sadly the Bussekin need only make a model to sell out completely.

A review to generate more sales would be futile as they all always sell out,so much so that the secondary market is a side business for many who can afford to outlay the cash up front.
Being as they all sell out there will always be a secondary market for models..except for the "Scotch Dispenser and Sus Scrofa".

Scrap Yard models have always sold out in minuets too. By going to the open ordering format like Busse they are able to take many more orders from people who may at the time not have had the money but after 4 weeks they do so they order one..or two.
This strategy will help to crimp some of the secondary market by giving more people ample time they reap the profits NOT the secondary market entrepreneurs.

Many folks like Horn Dog would welcome your idea for reviews in advance of a release, but until they need to advertise to sell out of a model we may never see this option.

Great idea though!!

Peace.

Good idea. I'd suggest HD as the logical choice and they should fly me out to take the glamour pics of it in action.

Well I have to say I like HD's reviews as well...but agree that the market is always there for whatever gets produced Bussekin wise...I would love a job as a staff writer for some Magazine which does reviews...sadly none really over here like Blade or whatever...plus if they buy advertising you always need to be positive...so an independant Magazine like "Which Knives" or whatever would be cool...but the market here is so P.C. on this type of thing I reckon the sales would not be enough to make it work...but a nice idea if it could do.

It would be interesting to know how many SOD orders were for several knives at once, people buying in multiples with the intent of selling some on for a profit. If nothing else, more demand would justify a "one per customer" policy to make sure that everybody who wants a knife to use rather than resell can get one at the proper price.
