That's a good explanation silverbullets. The only thing is that a while back I pm'd Renee to ask if the combat grade SOD's are saber ground and she said yes, like the combat grade DF. The only other thing I can think of is that the SOD is said to be .250 because of the LE SOD. Afterall, nobody is going to complain if their combat grade SOD is slightly over .250 inches thick. Just my thoughts on the subject. By the way, is that a CAD drawing you posted?

That is interesting DL, the pictures show them to be full height flat ground but then again those were probably prototypes. I would be happy if they are saber ground

.25 works well for me for these kind of blades. My DFLE is one of my very favorites and .25 is perfect!
My understanding is that the CG SOD's are saber ground too, which is fine with me. I look forward to being able to experience the difference between the CG's and LE's first hand... soon.

Looking at the picture in the choil area, you can see that the CG grind stops about 3/4 of the way up. Would that be a "high" saber grind? Is there such a thing? ![[Linked Image from i292.photobucket.com]](http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm35/d_filgate/SODBlack31-1-1.jpg)

scrappy. the ykle is more than .25. actually the only cg thicker than .25 isn't it?
another thing to consider is that the thicker knives were probably cg's and not ground down as much as the LE's.
another thing to consider is that there is not a huge difference between .275 or .260 than .250

ohhh! sorry about that. I heard someone who measured around .265 so I thought they were listed as such. They were listed at .25 though. (obviously there are tolerances! duh!)

Looking at the picture in the choil area, you can see that the CG grind stops about 3/4 of the way up. Would that be a "high" saber grind? Is there such a thing? When I PM'd Renee about the grind height, she said she compared it to the combat grade DF which, in the words of the DF description, is a "neary full height grind," and the grind on the SOD was the same. That is, the SOD grind height is more than a 3/4 grind height, but not a full flat grind.

the df, dm, s6, yg, and yh are all thicker than 1/4. the dfle, dmdc, dmle, amd ykle are all 1/4. those were all saber ground coated blades, the web site might have listed them as thicker than .25 but that was the stock thickness of the steel used. That said we have no idea what the SODs are going to mic out at. This isn't quite correct. The S6 is flat ground in both CG and LE versions and is .275" thick in both styles. It's one of the things that makes the S6 highly sought after.

Isn't 1/4 the same thickness as the Ratweiler? I mean I always get confused with the American measures (hint, hint, change to metric, hint) but if it has the same thickness as the weiler beast then it is more than enough. I've actually been buying smaller and thinner knifes and find them more useful.
We always discuss the worst case scenario but I tend to use my blades mostly for cutting and I've never battoned in the outdoors (it is easier to collect sticks to start a fire, but then I live in a dry climate) so I don't really need a camp knive which can pry safes open.
For the SOD I made an exception and took the plunge even though I prefer smaller knives. Once the SOD's comes in, can somebody make a comparison pic between the ole tramp and the SOD. Thanx.
