It's sunny and about 57F. Much too nice a day to spend inside watching TV and getting even fatter. It was in the 30s this morning, but it looks nice out now. So I went for a little 4 mile walk in the woods. Very slowly, I might add. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark001.jpg) It's a nice little nature trail about 3 miles from my house. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark003.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark005.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark007.jpg) Way down at the end of this road is a downed Juniper tree. I thought I'd make me another walking stick from it. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark011.jpg) It's around here somewhere. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark012.jpg) Ah, here it is. Today, I brought my little Fiskars pocket saw. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark014.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark015.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark016.jpg) Then I came upon this clump of bamboo. Light, strong, straight, smooth, and free for the taking. Walking sticks aplenty! ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark019.jpg) I wandered by this old building foundation. Something from the old CCC Camp in the 1930s. [img] http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark020.jpg[/img] And this concrete lined pit. Maybe an old ammo storage bunker or something. [img] http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark021.jpg[/img] I stopped for a rest at the usual campsite. I'm travelling light today (for a 300lb man), no fixed blades. [img] http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark023.jpg[/img] On the way back I spotted this perfect walking stick for my ex mother-in-law. [img] http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/SundayPark024.jpg[/img] Then back to the Jeep and home. It's been a nice quiet day. I was going to go out back and do a chopping session with the DFLE, but I really needed the walk.

Looks like a nice warm walk Vic. Tough to stay in shape during the winter here in the NW- but I hike every day and swim in the mornings. If I don't I would soon not fit into my clothes !!

I realize how boring this is, but until the SODs start arriving, it will have to do. I have gotten so fat, I can't even zip up my motorcyling jacket. I must get out of this old-age funk and get back into some sort of excercise routine. Today, I had no excuses. Yesterday was my daughter Bonnie's 18th birthday party at her favorite Chinese restaurant. What a multi-cultural nightmare that was for me. But I was nice. I paid for it and smiled and pretended to like the wierdos with rings in their lips and hair colors not found in nature. Good God. I needed a day in nature. I just don't belong in public anymore.

That devil's walking stick would be perfect for her.

Except- I got in such bad shape trying to please everybody else- paying for everything- smiling etc that it almost killed me. That was two years ago. Then- I started a daily exercise program- threw away all the wrong food in the house and started doing all outdoor activities. I had what is called " a blinding flash of the obvious" and took a whole new path. Now- if I can't say " hell yes" to something- i simply say ' no" . The younger folks on here most likely are not to this point yet- but us old guys know this all to well. Just my thoughts.

Hi Vic, Winter in your neck of the woods looks good to me! My old injuries and aches and pains are playing up in the cold spell here. ![[Linked Image from i343.photobucket.com]](http://i343.photobucket.com/albums/o445/SteelFan-Infi/100_0046-1-1.jpg) Doing a bit of walking and fell running and considering a lot of stuff myself! Mostly along the lines of "how much consumer overkill I have in goods of all kind".... I have so much more than I need.....really want to get back to basics...looked at the Huha on the Busse Forum about the latest release...made me think what are people like??.... Two RMD's...FSH'S...and the Khukri's when they come out...does all I need ...the rest can go...might fund a trip to Alaska on the proceeds... Sitting at the computer is far less beneficial than a good walk....

not to hijack the thread but steel fan brought up a good point. i just had that same conversation with someone. im into hiking and camping, and ive started to get interested in lightweight backpacking and Super Ultra lightweight backpacking and there are tons of fabrics and designs and DIY and just a MESS of information. anyways i guess what im saying is maybe sometimes our knowledge seeking pushes us away from activities we enjoy. i know ive been guilty of that. on the otherhand steelfan when we get our SODs im sure we'll all be out chopping and slicing all day long

Nice walk, Vic. We've had a cold spell here the past couple of weeks and it's refreshing to see it warm and sunny somewhere.
