Heh. If you want quiet, read up on the DeLisle Carbine (designed for special forces to remove sentries and that kind of thing; doesn't seem to be any louder than somebody clapping) and the soviet PSS (uses a special sealed cartridge where the powder forces a piston which in turn rams the bullet, so that none of the powder gasses leave the cartridge; almost totally silent).
Neither are really available on the open market, but they are fascinating pieces of engineering.

Those soviet PSS pistols are really cool.
If you are a friend of the yard, you are a friend of mine.

Next to my bed I have a .45 (EAA Witness), a Benchmade Nimravus, and 2 flashlights: a 3 D Cell Maglight and a 2 AA Fenix that I am really starting to love.
One addition I would like to make is a Winchester 1300 defender with a mounted light. That would be my perfect home defense gun...

Fenix is sure getting popular. Is there advantages over surefire ?

Fenix is sure getting popular. Is there advantages over surefire ? I don't own any fenix lights but I keep an EagleTac flashlight and a Makarov at my bedside. As for advantages, both EagleTac and Fenix use Cree led bulbs instead of incandescent lamps like SureFire. Also Led's consume less power than Incans.

I have been using a Fenix L1D Light for over a year.I have the Premium Q5 (superbright)model.
I also have a 2 AA body and a 1 cell cr123 body.
The light is very very well made and an excellent value.
Ive had no problems since I got it,and I do use it just
about every day.
NFI in the company, just a happy customer.

For quiet, how about a Welrod? These still get issued...or were back in Gulf War I...but are single shot closed action manual re-cocking weapons which whilst they hold rounds in a magazine are not semi auto at all.

Well, Canadaian law being more stringent on house defense firearms, I don't have one by the bedside, otherwise I'd be slapped with unsecure firearms storage.
But, if it were legal and I were to choose one of my current firearms for the task, it would be my Browning ten gauge over/under, loaded with 3 1/2" shells in 000 buck. It's got 30" barrels, so it would keep that grouping nice and tight on an intruders' centre of mass.
