I promised pictures! Got around to moving the stuff off my camera.

^ 2008-12-11, showing the ice in progress on our clothes line. Freezing cold, rain, dark, fog... Not a good night at all.

^ 2008-12-12, morning. This is the thickest coating of ice I could find on anything.

^ Our road. Destruction on a massive scale, and this wasn't even the worst road by a long way.

^ This middle-aged maple just peeled right open...

^ Cables dragged nearly to the ground by the weight of the ice. Also look at the tops of the trees across the way, how they're all crushed down. Real pretty, real dangerous.

^ Just some random ice. All kinds of stuff becomes very different after a storm like this.

^ Lost a pine over in the parking lot. We didn't lose any of the birches, despite their extreme bend!

^ Have I mentioned that it was beautiful? Especially as the sun came up and everything glittered.

^ Evening of the 12th.

^ Morning of 2008-12-13 With the furnace not yet rigged to run off the generator, some of us welcomed any heat we could find.

^ (sorry, I can't get enough of this kind of thing)

^ This giant piece of wood is only a
limb off the tree. Note my H1 stuck in it in the foreground for scale. This would probably be the "something big and heavy" I heard fall.

^ Aside from all the falling debris, it was a storm of freezing rain, and the pond level was up quite a ways.

^ People were all over the roads (once open) cutting up the stems of trees for firewood. I shudder to think of how strongly people would be tempted to burn green wood.

^ Can you spot what's wrong with this picture?

^ 2008-12-15. Sharpening a hatchet, I slipped with the stone and sliced the tip of my finger. A small wound to look at, but the thing bled and burned all out of proportion. We can conclude that 1.) I was careless and/or distracted and 2.) the hatchet was good and sharp.

^ 2008-12-16. Now that doesn't look right.

^ 2008-12-18. Lots more snow! About 5 inches by the time it was done the next morning. A very good night to not go anywhere.
Finally, two short and very low-quality video clips. My camera definitely is not happy about doing video.
