I've wanted to ask this for a very long time so here goes. What is the difference in the busse line and the scrapyard line? I've never handled a busse but have had a scrapper 6. I see a ton of busse in posts on several sites and they look interesting, I want to know why the BIG cash? Is it the handle material? grooves I've seen on some of the blades? Please help me understand
On a side note when I used to visit in the past the yard was in the process of moving the yard to Ohio, are they there and where is there in the buckeye state.
Thanks
Cazio

Hey Cazio-I am a newbie here and used to wonder the same thing. IMO - if you are seeking performance you can't go wrong with any of the three ( SR101-77 or INFI) I think the big ticket Busse is just the king of the crop. It depends on what you are looking for I suppose. Collector- user or specualtion.I think many just feel that the steel has a very good ROI which is rare in the world today. If you check out Ebay right now you will see SODs selling at double the cost. Supply and demand and the demand is super high because of the great performance and also beauty of these knives. So- join the addiction.......oh yeah- forgot to mention the addiction. Well- now that I messd this all up one of the JYDs will pitch in. Just my 2 cents-Merry Christmas

Wauseon, OH is the North WEST corner of Ohio. I used to live in Toledo which is very close to there.

Busse COmbat IS the cream of the crop. They offer the best of it all. however, sr77 is as close to INFI as it gets and in terms of toughness, is the exact same. edge retention is better with INFI and it resists rust better than SR77, though SR77 isnt prone to rust as easy as SR101 is.

Different price positioning:

Busse Combat sits between production and custom with unusual designs and more expensive handles. Lots of limited runs which is a bit of an oxymoron. Tons of collectors buy and sell blades. Personally I don't like them very much, I find their designs over the top and the last run with the grooves is just plain ugly.

Busse Combat is generally known for tons of features like scull crushers, thick stock, overlong knives, grooves, weird serrations, camo, etc., that are not needed in the outdoors at all; with the occasionall gem like the Warden. But I'm a minority with a conservative taste in knives, Busse has a huge following of very dedicated fans and if you buy one you can usually re-sell it at a profit. And least we forget, they claim to have found the holy grail of metals, of course its a secret. Great marketing.

Swamp: used to be the entry level line taking from the Busse Taliwhacker and the legendary Basics. They brought out some great and original knives, also had limited runs. In a sense Busse with less of the marketing cloud, their designs tended to be more conservative as well. I think the only strange design they ever brought out was the crash rat, an axe with a straight and unergonomic handle? Regrettably they have been asleep for the last 12 months with only 2 knives (HC and Mandu). Pity, in my view they used to have the best knives in the Busse group. Yes, I'm a Swamp fan and I'm p****d at their lack of production.

Yard: well, they took over the most original part of the Swamp: ResC. While having a few hicups (quality anyone) they brought out a range of nice knives. While some are clones of previous Swamp designs they have been updating their range with some very nice and original offers. One can critisise their fetish for overthick metal stock, in most cases the thiner blades work a lot better (e.g. Mutt LE). Currently the most interesting segment of the Busse group. Also by far the best forum.

Good post Bodhi. It also leaves me with many more quetions ( or thoughts). I am sure some others that are far more educated and much more time on the board will feel the same. I will await their comments. Thanks for the input-Merry Christmas
