Busse Combat sits between production and custom with unusual designs and more expensive handles. Lots of limited runs which is a bit of an oxymoron. Tons of collectors buy and sell blades. Personally I don't like them very much, I find their designs over the top and the last run with the grooves is just plain ugly.

Busse Combat is generally known for tons of features like scull crushers, thick stock, overlong knives, grooves, weird serrations, camo, etc., that are not needed in the outdoors at all; with the occasionall gem like the Warden. But I'm a minority with a conservative taste in knives, Busse has a huge following of very dedicated fans and if you buy one you can usually re-sell it at a profit. And least we forget, they claim to have found the holy grail of metals, of course its a secret. Great marketing.

Swamp: used to be the entry level line taking from the Busse Taliwhacker and the legendary Basics.

I agree most Busse Combats are (f)ugly.. Why you have to pay extra for cheapo looking micarta beats me! In use the micarta handles just aren't res-C comfy (based on BATAC CG use).. Now if Busse Combat did a res-C handle option, I wouldn't just have one of those legendary Basic 7's!

Yard:(snip) Currently the most interesting segment of the Busse group. Also by far the best forum.

Indeed the best forum of the 3!
From experience,I can tell you this is due to
a few things...
This is a friendly place... No ill will towards
anyone that I have seen to date.
Members keep the site friendly, always helping others
with their questions etc...
Welcoming new members is also a MAJOR point.
Welcoming the new guy, even if there are 34 people
in front of you that already did,is a really good and important thing.
It promotes the friendly feeling of the place, which
returns to us through the members future posts.
Mods keep the place ship shape with their carefully selected corrections
and thread editing.
Not an easy task.
Thanks Mods...
This place is great.

Im new to Busse and Scrapyard. I have a FFBM, Skinny ASH, and NMSFNO. Im waiting on my first SYK but I have handled SYKs before. I dont find Busse over the top or weird in their design at all. They have some models that are different but definitely tame in the cutlery world.

Someone mentioned Micarta as a "Cheapo" material? I find that kind of odd, since its used on some of the best knives in the industry and is a staple amongst makers to specialize in user knives. Its [censored] near impurvious to anything.

I use all my knives and its refreshing to see that Busse knives retain most of their value even when used heavily and even reprofiled. Thats a sign of a great knife. Im sure SYK is the same.

Thanks for all the answers guys. When I first posted this I was hesitant to say I thought the busse were ugly, most just don't appeal to my eye. I'm sure they're great knives but I'm partial to the simple basics.

Hmm think that might have been me!

My vitriolic view on micarta is widely known in these parts! (This lot just nod sagely when I rant then quietly ignore the rant! ) The point I was trying to make- albeit badly, was that the Busse handles look cheap and nasty to me- look at a BC and a Bark River handle. No contest on visual quality- metallurgy is a different matter, INFI is good stuff (though Mike's A2 is supposed to be good too)... Busse handles are roughly CNC cut and can be fuzzy and just look cheapo. Micarta has it's uses, I'm waiting on a G10 handled ss Bravo 1 from BRKT, on choppers res-C is so much nicer though. HornDog our resident chopper expert has said several times the DFLE is the best chopper going. (Vic chime in if I'm misusing/ misrepresenting your words!)

I have considered getting a 7" BC of some sort with black G10 scales then wrapping them in electrician tape etc to make the knife more useful, then Sterling collapsed which stuffed that plan!
