Does anybody know what is that dislevelment on the blade spine next to the handle (on the oposite side of the choil)? I can see that thing on many Scrap Yard knives (Dog Father, Son of the Dog Father and Yard Guard have it). Does anybody know what is that intended for?

The ramp? It's just a place to put your thumb, especially if you're using the finger choil to choke up on the thing.

Personally, I think it's an excellent design.

Not to hijack the thread but because it is about spine design, jforbush picked up a very interesting knife called the Groove Master at Knob Creek (if I see another one next time, I'm gonna buy it). Here's a picture courtesy of the BusseCollector site:


The spine is designed so that it's comfortable to use the first notch for your thumb, or the second if you want to hold the knife with you index finger along the top of the blade. It looks a bit odd, but is quite comfortable to use.

Blade catch ? No way- it is a bottle opener for shore <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />!! I do like the ramp design on others. The ones in Jim's picture are REALLY sweet.
