It came this morning. In fact, it was my only mail. No bills. Wahoo!
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
I even have a black Cordura sheath that fits it. I think it is a Ranger sheath, but it may be a SYKCO one. Whatever, it fits.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
I will compare it to some of my other 7" blades.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
The SOD blade is just a bit longer than the Camp Tramp's and with a more aggressive, and nicely swedged clip point.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
It is a much broader blade than my new BRKT Bravo 2.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
It is even broader than my BRKT KSF Custom Bowie. These two knives feel very similar in the hand, with the SOD being just slightly more blade heavy.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
It is as broad as my Sarsquatch Bowie and rusty CE are.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
There, that's better. Thank God for the Scotchbrite.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
And finally, here is the SOD with its cousins from Swamp Rat, the Chopweiler and Ratweiler.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
Next up, a little chopping comparison and some batonning.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Nice Vic! Thanks for posting the pictures. I can't wait to read your chopping review.

I just love the long penetrator swedge Dan put on this. In fact, I like everything about this knife, the balance, the weight, the feel.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
This knife feels as good in the hand as my KSF Custom Bowie, and that is saying a lot. The KSF is a little less blade heavy, but close. The BR KSF Bowie is 5/16" thick at the spine compared to 1/4" for the SOD. Both are plenty thick enough.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
The KSF chopped a bit better than the SOD, but then it came with a full convex edge, too. The knives weigh about the same. I really appreciate the Res C handle when hammering on hard old maple. BTW: this SOD came with one of the best edges of any Scrapper I have purchased. Just a little work, and I'm sure it will hold its own against any of my 7" choppers.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
The SOD slashes through live palmettos with ease.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
It took out this pine sapling in just a few strokes.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
The thick wide 7.5" blade batons with ease.

After reprofiling the SOD's edge a bit, I put it up against my fully convexed Camp Tramp, which is an awesome little chopper.

The newly sharpened SOD LE chopped as well. I love it. The new SOD LE is everything I hoped it would be!

Thanks, Renee. I knew I'd like this Scrapper. As far as I am concerned, the SOD LE is just a shorter version of my favorite chopper, the DFLE. Dan made a winner with this one.

Great pictures HD
The SOD is a great knife.
It would be nice to see how the CG and the LE stack up
together, and I'm sure that someone is going to pics
of a comparison soon.

Congrats on a great knife HD.

Cheers

I didn't order a CG. Why bother when I'm just going to strip it and convex it anyway. I like the full flat grind on the LE. I'm sure the high saber grind on the CG will chop as well or better with comparable edges. I'm guessing that the CG is just a bit heavier.

Thanks Vic- especially for the CT/SODLE comparison. I haven't received my LE version yet but already have the both the CGs as my black arrived today !! These knives have a great feel to them. Kudos on a great score

...The SoD appears to be a little wider than the Camp Tramp. Is it heavier as well? If so, by how much?

My scale is not accurate. And the CT had some steel removed when I convexed it. Let's just say the knives are close in weight. I think the SOD is just a bit heavier than the CT. In actual use, there is no practical difference between the knives. The CT has better edge holding, but the SR77 is easier to resharpen, so that's a wash. I like the looks of the SOD a bit better. I can't imagine anyone who likes the Camp Tramp not liking the SOD.

Great pics Vic and an awesome review. I have to say I am jealous bud, your back yard is a playground for knife nuts, [censored]. All I can do in my back yard is split firewood, I have to drive a good distance to get any real trees to chop up.
