Maker's Mark is a pretty good mainstream bourbon. Wathen's bourbon is excellent, and not terribly expensive. Another very good, reasonably-priced small-batch bourbon is Elijah Craig; it is probably a "best value" -- (in my opinion) it's just shy of Wathen's in taste, but over $10/bottle less in price. However, both Wathen's and Elijah Craig are much harder to find than Maker's Mark, which you should be able to buy anywhere.

The more I drink the less I care...JK. Actually, the more I drink the more I like beer. What can I say, I have drank wine around the world and ultimately a good beer is always hard to beat. Unless of course you can make a good Pina Colada <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />.

I'm not really that into hard liquor, but (primarily due to the Busse tie-in) I've been trying different Scotches lately. So far and in my opinion, the best has been Pig's Nose. As 5-year old blended Scotch, it has the worst "specs", but tastes best. That being said, I didn't want to spend more than $40/bottle, so I stuck with "plebeian" brands:
Speyburn (10yo Single malt),
Dewar's White Label (blend),
The Glenlivet (12yo Single malt),
Pig's Nose (5yo blend)

The Glenlivet was also pretty good (although not quite as good as Pig's Nose). I've drunk Glenfiddich 15yo before, and remember it as good, but having decided that I like Pig's Nose as a straight up sipping Whiskey and can get it for about $37/bottle, why look for something more expensive?

The Glenlivet is plebeian? You think it’s “pretty good”?

Glenfiddich is just “good”?!?!

I’m glad I don’t have your recherché tastes in booze. I can’t afford it. I normally drink single malt Scotch, but I’ll give Pig's Nose a try.

I'm a tequila drinker myself! Personally, I like Don Julio 1942. I haven't had the Real, as it's a little pricey for my tastes, but that 1942 is awfully good.

I recall that The Glenlivet was a bit over $30/bottle and I'm pretty sure I've seen Glenfiddich at Sam's Club for almost exactly $40. By plebeian, I mean that I'm not buying JW Blue or any 20-30yo Scotch. I suppose "real" plebeian might be more like Old Smuggler, which, though cheap, actually isn't too bad (that was my Dad's brand of Scotch -- he was also a Pabst Blue Ribbon drinker).

Pig's Nose doesn't have a bite or a strong "peaty" taste -- it's quite smooth, which I like, although some might consider that as lacking character. It's difficult to find around here (I place an order, and the liquor store gives me a call when their distributor sends it); I placed an order this weekend, and recall that my first bottle took a couple weeks to arrive.
