Even they are close to performance regarding strength and toughness and have pretty similar hardness in bussekin blades, these two steels are so different! I'm watching the SR77 on my SOD blade where the coating jumped out near the tip and watching the INFI in the same area of my ASH. SR77 is a gray steel, it looks very similar to vidia, while INFI has a color somewhere between aluminium and silver. When they rust, their patina is also very different. For now, what I can say is that for normal (soft material) cutting INFI holds an edge better (competing with supersteels and defeating most of them in this area) while SR77 is not comparable with a supersteel from this point of view. For corrosion resistance INFI is also better than SR77. As regards toughness, I have only chopped some cables with the SOD and did no other hard stuff yet. This weekend I'm going to do something harder with it and I'll tell you then how I feel it compared to the Busse Skinny ASH1 (the skinny ASH1 is approx.425 grams weight and the SOD is approx. 444 grams so they are close). As regards destruction testing, I'm still waiting to see Noss testing the Skinny ASH1 as he promissed, on www.knifetests.com. The SOD would be, I think, the same as the Scrapper 6 in a destruction test, but from Busse Combat he only tested a Battle Mistress until now (which is to big to be compared with the SOD).

reconseed, If you are considering the NMSFNO and can obviously afford it I would go for it before its gone. It is one of my all time favorite Blades! I also own a SOD and a SOD LE and love them too. When you get one in your hands you will know what I mean.

first off I agree, the NMSFNO is really a gorgeous piece of steel and you will not regret spending the money if you have it. It really is worth it and it is currently in my top 2 favorite blades. That said I think this toughness arguement gets old, let's face it whether it is S7 or 52-100 (Swamp Rat) or INFI or A2 or 3V for what we use knives for we are not going to break them. Yes S7 has more lateral strength than 52-100 but I challenge you to break a Swamp Rat in 52-100. What are you using a knife for that would require that kind of lateral strength? Don't get me wrong I love my Scrapyard knives and am really looking forward to the next release I just think this whole which one is tougher question really doesn't apply to what we use knifes for. I am curious, what do you use your blades for?

Good pont SB. Heck- I am happy with EVERYTHING I have so far . I am just trying to figure out which Busse should be my first one. It looks to be NMSFNO or maybe an ASH. Only prob I see is those big Busses look to be VERY ADDICTIVE for sure

I am curious, what do you use your blades for? I use mine for camping mostly! Chopping and processing firewood...etc. Most of these knives are overkill, but I like the exclusivity of having a blade of this caliber, along with the piece of mind that I can do pretty much what ever I want to it.

I mean I think back to that post regarding the camp tramp where the user used the knife to cut himself out of a car that had rolled. Great story and really I would think that something like that would be the extreme case of what we would use our knives for really and that was 52-100 and it held up great. Unless you are working as a part time bank robber and need to pry open a bank vault with your knife than the need for the extra lateral strength is silly imho.

Not in a SHTF knife, it's not. At least it's not IMO. You never know what your knife may be called upon to perform in a SHTF situation. And when life or death is concerned, failure is not an option. That's why my Camp Tramp has PERMANENTLY earned the most coveted spot in my entire knife collection . . . my BOB! BOB? I've seen this before, and after searching, cannot find a definition..
Enjoy every sandwich.
