Are any of you dogs from, or familiar with, the Rolla, Missouri area?

I'm looking at a possible job there and am wondering how the area is.

Another possibility might be Manhattan, Kansas.

For a little background, I've lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for 24 of my 25 years, so I'm used to small towns.

What do you folks have to say about these places?

I was about 2 hours from Rolla and I used to live there when I was younger. It is a pretty decent community. There is a large engineer college their. They town pretty much revolves around it.

Luke - I have only driven past Rolla on I-44, buy my wife's cousin went to college there. He said it's a pretty nice area, and his folks agreed. Personally , having grown up in the Chicago suburbs, I LOVE living in rural Missouri. We have CCW permits as well. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I'm glad to hear positive responses so far. I'm fresh out of college from an engineering school in Michigan so the atmosphere of Rolla could be very familiar to me. We have CCW here as well, moving to a state without it would be a hard pill to swallow.

There is a ton to do outdoors and St Louis is only 1.5 hrs away. Cost of living is pretty good too.

I am not from Rolla, or live there, but I stay there quite often when I am going to Chicago to see my brother. I love that part of MO. There are some really nice and neat places to see around there. I have had nothing but positive interactions and experiences in that area.

Rolla is also about 30 minutes east of Ft. Leonard Wood. Sullivan, Union, and Cuba are townships that nearby along the I-44 corridor. Close to St. Louis, and close to plenty of outdoor activities.
