Renee or Dan, could we choose to have our JYD number? I know that is probably not the case, but doesn't hurt to ask. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

As far as the LE #'s, we go in the order that the order came in, if you get in fast enough and the number you are assigned is before your JYD # then you could request to get that number, but you would have to send me an email the day that you place your order so that I can see if it works out. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Thanks Jim. I just looked at that page, it figures that it was the only one that I did not read. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" />

Dan...... Thank you for this offering!!! I cannot wait as I have been waiting for something like this!

My B-Day is in March, guess what I'm getting? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

I guessed that you would like the "high tech" version of the Nessmuk, Dan. I like your modified Ontario skinner version as well. Taking an old design and producing it with modern materials has its appeal, too. For me, this is the boldest and most exciting small knife offered by the Yard. Dan Busse rolled the dice on this one. This is not a hard core door breaching combat knife like we are used to in the Yard. It is an outdoorsman's knife, suitable for a variety of real world survival tasks and ordinary kitchen use.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

A 12 gauge shotgun loaded with alternating slugs and buckshot would be the firearm of choice for such a close encounter. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I disagree. If you are within 12 gauge range with a grizzly bear, its all over at that point. Take your 870 and fire away at the grizzly Klink. You wont live to tell about it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

I based my post on published reports of what many Game Wardens and Park Rangers use when called upon to go after wounded and dangerous bears. After all, NOTHING speaks louder than actual experience! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
For hunting bears AT A DISTANCE a high-powered rifle would certainly be first choice. But up close and personal - I will believe what the folks with actual experience rely on. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Plus One, Vic! As much as I love big choppers and other great outdoor and great blades of a more main stream orientation, it's cool to see Dan offer something that will fill a slightly more unique slot in our cutting needs. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I'm with you Tom. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> If I ever was in that situation which I hope I never am... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> A good 12 gauge with 00 buck and slugs would be my first choice, maybe with a good Dirty Harry 44 to back it up! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

BTW, Years ago my cousin did find himself facing just such a predicament, he used to live in Alaska, went on a hunting trip, and was charged by a large Brown Bear. Luckily even though he was not there to hunt Bear, he grabbed his rifle and dropped the bear before it got to him and his hunting partners.

Jeff - did your cousin need to change his pants?!!? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> That has got to be one scary situation, where your immediate action determines your fate. Kudos to your cousin and his quick thinking! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I used to think that I would not have a beat encounter here in Oklahoma, but I have been hearing a lot of reports about bears down in the southeastern part of the state. I guess the bears are following the Arkansas River into the state. This is an area that I plan to camp in this spring so I better be prepared for anything--generally it is the two legged problems that I worry about. My kit will be heavy but I will be ready!

He most likely did have to... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I know I'd probably have to! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" />

He was very, very lucky! Although then he was then faced with all sorts of problems with the authorities for shooting a Bear while out of season or not having the proper paperwork for hunting bears... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" /> How crazy is that... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

He finally came out okay though. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I have read accounts in magazines as well as from my wife's uncle who lives in Alaska concerning the same predicament. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> However, I would rather argue with the authorities than a charging bear! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Vic,

I have a love for both old and new designs. I actually have PSK categories as to which knife goes with what kit. I have a primitive knife and kit to match where it is just the basics which include fire (the actual forged one, not Swedish) steel and char cloth, a stone knife that a friend knapped for me and more in a leather pouch that I made.

Then I have my Nessmuk kit which is upgraded with matches in a small, round tin with misc stuff stashed inside. This can be stashed in a pocket or one of my cloth bags. I still need a double bit axe and double bladed pocket knife. This kit uses my modified Ontario seen here or the new Forged Nessie that I bought at a rendezvous this past September. I need to post pics of the new one.

Then I have a modern "Nessie" kit which is in an altoids can and all is housed in a small plastic case. This is what I pair with my DM, RMD, and the LE Scrap Yard knife which my mind slips on the name... It is not the filet knife but the other small LE with mudder handles. This is all combined with my Swedish firesteel.

Then it moves up to what I carry with the big knives or pocket knives. Everything has it's category and I have many woods wandering kits of which I need to post photos.

I was waiting for the Busse Hog Muk, but that seems like it will never happen and then Dan answered my prayers on this.... Now I have a Modern Muk to go with my modern Muk kit... Now for an axe to match as I have my double bladed Byrdwings Spyderco to compliment it.
