I understand 154cm, but I have never owned Busse 154cm? It is apparanty a different critter in many ways. Anyway, does it pose new challenges? It seems I read that Andy had some difficulty with it in one of his Busse's.

Thanks guys

154 CM is hard to sharpen compared to SR77 and most carbon steels. It's a lot like ATS-34, if you've ever sharpened it. I used to hate such steels for that reason. Diamond sharpeners will cut it fairly well. I use a belt sander now, and I maintain the edge with a BRKT strop. The upside is that both these steels will take a very sharp edge and hold it through a lot of use.

My MPLE was not very sharp when I bought it however it didn't need to be profiled. After reading many posts and deciding on methods of sharpening I easily touched it up and is scary sharp now. I am playing with several sharpening methods and working my way up to the sander in the future.Maybe one day I can do the work that Vic- Tolly and others do- but I am trying to learn the basics for now. The 154 for awhile was at the bottom of my list of favorites- now it is right up at the top. I am absolutely thrilled with the new offering. Being 154 and that type of blade is going to make it probably the best utility knife I have !! The only bummer is now I have to wait. But- as you guys know - it is worth the wait. Just my thoughts-Thanks

I have also "learned" to love the 154 CM. This is an amazing steel for sharpness and edge retention. I'm sure somebody is going to dredge up some of my old posts trashing it and ATS-34. With the modern sharpening tools available now, there is no reason to shy away from these hard steels. I'm looking forward to getting the new Scrap Muk, too.

I have a Benchmade 950 Rift folder that has 154 CM. It gets ridiculously sharp.. Can't wait to see what the Scrap Muk can do with the Busse heat treat.. I hear it's like night and day..

i have to jump on this one and i'll phrase this delicately.

154CM makes a better cutting tool than SR77.

it makes sense that Dan should have a steel for supreme sharpness and another for supreme toughness.

give us a scalpel and a breacher bar, Dan.

Absolutely it does. That Busse 154 CM is super sharp. Ever notice that none of the mudder handled slicers use SR77? I sure hope he does another SS4 in the 154CM. If it were up to me, even the YK would be in that steel. Of course for the big choppers, I like the SR77.

I would also like to see an SS4 done in 154CM. There is no doubt that it would sell.

I would also like to see some experimentation with stainless in bigger choppers using the lamintate system. I think it would be possible to make a tough chopper that also held an edge for a long time. It would probably cost more than INFI though.
