You could contact Renee; I suspect Dan could touch up the coating easy enough. I doubt it would cost anything but shipping, although I think your friend should be the one to pay.

Or maybe see if one of the guys like Vic/Jeff or ? wants to do a strip job for you ? I believe there is a thread on this somewhere and I am thinking of doing this to at least a couple of my users. I like the look. But - if you are going to queen the knife- might want to have it repaied as suggested. Just an option.

Sounds like the knives will be fine with the proper care, the marks will just give them more character, and now that they're already marked, give'em heck!

Or.. you could strip'em, and them beat them and use them like they're meant to be used!

As for the friend... well I've had friends like that in the past, but not for long...

I like the rapping idea too!

I'm reminded of a much smaller incident where I was showing somebody the flint and steel out of my fire kit. My mistake was letting this person hold the tools. "How do you do it?", they ask, as they scrape the steel perpendicularly across the delicate edge of the stone. "AAAGH!", I reply.

Similar lesson.

It's amazing how the innocent use of the words "stripping" and "leather"
utilized in the same sentence can produce imaginings that far exceed the
intended use of the words

Now, you'll have to excuse me while I go and wash out my brain with soap
