I'm thinking of attending Tom Brown Jr.'s Tracker school either this year or next and was wondering if anyone here had taken any of those courses. Not sure which course to sign up for yet, probably survival or tracking as I've been studying tracking for awhile now(it becomes very addictive).

I've been to the Standard Survival course. I don't know if it's changed or not but when I took it, you had to take the Standard Survival course before you could take any others.

Some say it cost too much, but I liked it and I felt like I got my moneys worth.

A lot of Tom's teaching are based on a Native American prospective, where you learn to get pretty much everything you need from your surroundings. I would seriously encourage you to read a few of his books before you go.

Also, when I was there, Tom taught part of the classes and was there everyday, but he does have several instructors that teach and assist as well.

Let me know if I can give you any other info on it.

I've read The Tracker and The Search, also i have a few of the field guides. They really interested me in the Indian way of life and in Tom and Stalking Wolfs philosophies.Thats why i want to go there.

The one that got me started was The Way of the Scout. After reading that I was hooked... Now I've read all 17 and some of them twice...

Some people are very critical of Tom's writings... I say take from them what you will, and for those that don't like them... don't read'em.

I like what Tom said the first day of the Survival course.

He said "If you believe everything I say without question, then your a fool... It's up to you to experience, and decide what is right and what works for you" that's not exact but it's close.

I have many survival and wilderness oriented books by many different authors, and there are many with good info. I wish I had the time and resources to take some other courses at other wilderness survival schools as well as some more of the courses at the Tracker school. I don't see it happening any time soon, or far for that matter at this point.

I have read most of Tom's books and they were pretty good but you did have to siv through some of the junk as with anything.

I've never been to a class but Tom has a real sketchy past.

There is a guy I met who is an Air Force sniper, MP, teaches there wilderness survival stuff etc etc. If he gets out or has some time off it would be cool if he could do a class. Mike is a good guy but a little rough around the edges...several tours in Iraq could do that I guess.
