Good idea. A telephone pole would make an excellent shaft for the DFCG and they're not difficult to locate. LOL.....

I honestly can't think of a circumstance where I'd choose to defend myself with a knife. A gun . . . even a .22 cal . . . just seems to be a better alternative. But if I had to reach for a SY knife, it would be my S6. The combination of its size, neutral balance and quickness in the hand make it the best tool for the job IMHO. so many good posts here... klink, bruce, bors, you all are right on.. Im with Bruce on this one about self defense... but i am not sure that is the intent of the OP's question (correct me if im wrong OP). i understood this thread to be asking which SY knife would you take to the grave with you. i.e. - the one you would NEVER part with, ever. under ANY circumstances. for me that is my s6. for a knife i would fight with... as bruce said above.... (no need to repeat it) the s6 would be about as good a combat, fighting knife as you are going to find. its light, fast, and tankish. (its wierd listening to slipknot and posting this response, by the way)

Running would be my first option...........but I am old and slow .Next would be to sick my wife on them as she is small but mean as hell . Last resort would be to run em over with my car . Oh yeah- also my shotgun and BDLE would be on standby- but I'm bettin on the ole lady . That would learn em not to mess with me. I ain't bad- but I got people

I am going to limit it to ones I own, so I think the DMDC is my choice. Small enough to move ok and good blade design. Depending on someone"s style, the new Scrap Muk might be a very effective slasher. If I could pick outside of SY, it would be my leaner meaner. Seems like a great fighter.

i'd want reach and agility. the biggest, lightest knife from the yard is the DFLE.
a knife i purchased recently and decided i didn't like at all was the cold steel laredo bowie. it's very swift in hand with a very fine point and a long blade. i couldn't improve on the design if i wanted to. i just don't like fighters.
i'd rather have the soviet shovel, a tomahawk, a sirupati, or a tarwar. less poke, more dismember.
klink already posted the best tool for the job.

DFLE, no question. It's light and fast with good reach.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

This is from experience, cutting myself many times and actually getting stabbed in the leg in a fight, I want to run as fast as I can. Let me tell you, getting stabbed is not like on tv where you don't feel it.

Some of us are too old and too fat to escape. We carry large caliber hand guns.

That's why I prefer a 12 gauge shotgun! Me too. A shotgun has that "reach out and touch you" approach to things. Much more preferable than the alternatives. However, if it had to be a knife fight, I think I would use something like the BirdDog. That thin, long, very pointy blade with it's upsweep would be ideal for both slashing (both the neck and groin areas to cut major arteries) and quick thrusting jabs through the ribs to vital points. With the Busse Heat Treat, you know that it isn't going to break on you if it gets stuck somewhere. Still would go with the shotgun though

SS4. Smaller and easily concealable for that surprise cut.
And remember... In a knife fight, Winner bleed Losers gush!
