OK all you wanna be commandos! A knife is a weapon of last resort, but it is deadly. We don't do duels anymore. If I must defend myself against deadly force using a knife, then I must attack without hesitation. My first choice is to avoid conflict altogther if possible. And my first choice of weapon is a pistol. And with a pistol, I will be trying my best to disengage by backing up while firing.
That makes a whole lot of sense. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
No duels. Attacks are NOT fair fights between gentlemen.
If attacks are ever 1 on 1, they are with overwhelming odds going towards the
attacker.
He isn't going to come at you face to face like in the movies or on UFC.
You aren't going to get a chance to fight back, he's going to hit you from
just outside your peripheral vision range (or from behind), with complete
surprise and with overwhelming force. That bad guy attacking you isn't
interested in giving you a chance to do anything.
He wants you down and out and completely vulnerable at his/her/their mercy...period, end of story.
Situational awareness is the key. Being aware of your surroundings, developing
the ability to discern "interviews", things like that.
That awareness gives you an extra little bit of time to either avoid the
situation, or at least to be able to draw your weapon.
It gives you a fighting chance to survive.
I love the statement about "would be commandos". I don't want to be one of
those, I want to be someone who can take his walks in safety and with peace
of mind <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
