I got a super deal on this guy last week.

Aha, an interesting looking package.

Yep, he dug right in.

Yes, yes, looks good so far!

All right, a sheath too.

Oops! Had to break for lunch.

Looks pretty good!

I can't believe I snagged this for such a deal!

I can't wait to get home and throw it a bit. I've been so busy with school that I have a frigging backlog of hawks that I need to try out! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> I've got this one and a new Crash Rat to try out. I'll have to get some shots of the Rat as well.

Nice Hawk, Joe. It looks like the Viet Nam model, but with a different handle.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Indeed it does. This is the ATC LaGana hawk. Since ATC can actually use Peter LaGana's name, I would expect it to be a better version. The head seems to have similar dimensions, but the handle isn't tapered like the CS copy. It is an oval, textured nylon handle. Everyone I have talked to has told me that it solves the basic problem of the weak haft attachment of the CS VH. It actually uses a bolt instead of a wedge to expand the haft into the head. I can try to get a pic of it later. ATC says this hawk is made of 1070 while CS says theirs is made of 1055.

Actually, I really am lost as to exactly what the relationship between ATC and CS really is. I think CS might own ATC, but ATC only supplies CS with certain hawks. IOW, I think CS owns ATC, who produces the hawks for both of them, but they sell different lines. Oddly enough, ATC won't even link to CS off their link page.

IIRC, CS and ATC are independent entities. The conflict comes from the fact that CS registered ATC as a trademark, but never did anything with it. When the real ATC came into existence, producing Vietnam style military hawks, CS was in a position to hassle them legally for trademark infringement. So there have been legal ructions between the two companies.

Congrats on the score!

A while back, I really wanted the tacticool Sibert Comanche, but I couldn't find any deals on the secondary market and got over that phase.

Cold Steel and American Tomahawk Company have nothing in common other than the name and I hope Lynn runs him into the ground. Personally, I will never buy anything from ATC again, even though I really like some of the designs. This link will shed some light on why I dislike Andy so much. Justin is a really stand up guy and Andy made his life hell.

BTW, I do have an ATC hawk just like yours and really like it. I had Bear Mountain Tomahawks make a nice leather sheath for it. It is much nicer than the clunky one that comes with the ATC.

Thanks, Ted. I had no idea. Not that I’ve ever bought anything from ATC anyway.

I am getting bit by the hawk stage lately. So far all I have picked up is a CS Riflemans Hawk and I plan to do some modding to it as soon as wrestling season is over.

I've read about all kinds of hell people have gone through with Bear Mountain as well. I don't know Andy from Adam, but Justin has been nothing but a stand up guy in my experience. I'll have to look into that.
