I didn't want to dredge the original thread up here , so here's some pics of the SOD sheath that I made after I dyed it. The dye was a bit uneven, but what the heck, it adds character

I also made up a little sheath for the yardkeeper - actually I made this for a friend of mine who I gave one to. She wanted a natural color, so I just used some Obenauf's heavy duty protector on it.

And the two together (just because I can)

On the yardkeeper sheath, you can kind of see where the water darkened up the leather (when I was molding it) - not sure how to not cause/hide that effect when you're not dyeing the leather.

Edited as pics messed up

It's been a lot of fun making these (but can be frustrating at times as well) - I'm still trying to figure out some of the tricks to make it easier. I highly recommend giving it a go - the most you will be out is about $70 in materials (including big piece of cow, needles, thread, stitch marker, fringer, snaps, and dye), and the materials will be enough to make a few sheaths (I'm estimating about 5). The biggest thing for me is planning. It's easy to take some extra leather off, but real hard to put it back on

Very nice work. It is fun to do the work and make something by hand for yourself or friends.

Very nice work, polarbare!

On the darkening of the leather when wet forming... lightly wet the rest of the surface as well and it will most likely help to keep the color more uniform. I think it looks fine though.

On the Brown... it's very hard to get a uniform color due to the leather grain itself, I personally think it looks great and gives it a better and more authentic look too.

Both those sheaths look fine to me PB. I wish I could do as well.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
