I am wondering how well the M9 will stack up as a chopper against the DF? Any thoughts based on the blade design and such? I am talking a stock DF now...not something Vic made into Excaliber...

Is the M9 blade similar to the Battle Rat? Was the BR a zero edge? Anyone compare how well the BR chopped next to a DF?

Fun stuff guys!

Though I have never owned one, I would assume the DF's Res-C handle would be WAY more comfy for serious chopping.

I have a M9LE ordered, so I just gotta get me a DF now....

Enjoy every sandwich.

I'm wondering as well. I could hazard a guess, but since I don't own a DF I would just be talking about my... well, you know.

I will never get to know. All my knives turn into Excalibur.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I guess you would have to compare the DF LE since the new SRKW M9 is an LE.Sounds interesting. From the knowledge I've been able to glean from this forum SR-77 is much more corrosion resistant than SR-101 but doesn't hold as good of an edge. That being said The only moderate sized Dog I have is the Yard Hook and it's been beat to heck and back and will still slice paper,so I've really never noticed a difference in edge holding between either steel.I do like Res-c as a handle material (especially on a chopper) though.

I do like the feel of the DFLE compared to the DFCG much better so would have to compare the 9 to this I agree. The DFLE just has a really nice feel to it so the nine has it's work cut out for sure . Should be interesting but I an saying DFLE on a an early call . Just my 2 cents

I prefer Stormbringer, for those Michael Moorcock fans out there!

The only thing I did to my DFLE was a sharp convex edge. Heck, I'd do that to a cheap machete. So when the M9LE arrives, I will make sure the edges are as close as possible, and have a little chop-off. Then we will know.

While they are similar in size, they are different beasts.

The M9 has a bit of a drop point, the Dogfather does not. The Dogfather has less weight in the tang to accept the res-c handle. All this (including the extra length) is going to mean that the extra forward weight will make it a better chopper.

However, chopping is only one aspect. What do you want your big knife to do? Nobody can answer that but you.

Personally, I have never had a big knife that could even close to what a decent axe can do. Chopping is not what I personally like about big knives.

The drop point style of the M9 will be better for piercing. The point closer to the centerline also changes the feel of the knife as well, and some of its intended uses.

Not saying that one is better than the other. Just pointing out the differences.

You just need to decide what it is you want a big knife to do for you.

I am just the opposite, Brian. I'd much prefer to chop with a chopper than a small axe. It's easier for me.
