When I returned from my morning walk, I had two packages in the mailbox: my new SMLE and my new kydex from Jeff for my Ranger Afghan.

The SMLE has to be THE hardest to sharpen Busse-made knife I have ever done. It ought to hold an edge forever. I really like this knife. It balances just in front of the first finger, just barely blade heavy. The knife has a little heft to it, a rugged substantial feel. This is a very fine outdoor knife. Perfect for skinning or chopping vegetables or any number of tasks. But that 154CM steel is a bear to sharpen, even on my Delta belt sander. Now that I finally have it sharp, I'll just strop it to keep it that way.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

It looks a cracking edge HD...the heat treatment must be good if it took you a while to sharpen it...probably at a higher Rc hardness than normal...I have some blades of Cowry X at Rc64...they took a long time too...but as you say they "last" longer too!

This is a serious knife, Peter. As soon as Jeff figures out how to make some kydex for this curvy beast, it will be one of my favorite EDC knives. No rust no worries, and laser sharp. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Yes...if I were not economising and fairly well stocked on smaller knives...this would be a most welcome addition! It has a great shape to the blade for utility tasks...looks like there might be an element of a sharpened clip curve to the blade? Very handy for ferro rod use! As much as the "experts" say use the spine...I find the shower of sparks can be low to none existant depending on the spine angle and I like a "clip" for this use! It also prevents "slipage" and scratches to the side of the blade...the deeper "bite" gives more control...at least for me.

I completely agree and will add that with the MUK and the DFLE pretty much all the bases are covered.
