The dishwasher will pit and ruin your edge. Don't do it.

+1 Once in a while may not hurt. It depends on the detergent used, but generally the detergents are quite abrasive. They have to be abrasive to clean effectively with no cloths/scrubbers. Over time, this can wear on the finish and edge. Some glass gets etched by the detergent over time, and typically, glass is harder than steel. I hand wash all my knives except for those I don't care about.
I'm sure that you're aware of all this, but I couldn't resist. I'm not anti-diswasher by any means.

Congrats on the score!

I did not have a clue the dishwasher did that... but I never put anything other than a kitchen blade through it b4... I will hand wash in the future.

BTW, I painted her with some acidic Grout Cleaner last night... she grayed up just ever so slightly (very hard to tell)... but I hope that is all she needs to resist. No its 6:30 am, time to rinse and dry rub my rack, and then light the wood coals for the smoker-

Can you post some pics of the Muk after you forced the patina?

Enjoy every sandwich.

So true. I bought some expensive German steak knives that were "dishwasher safe". The dishwasher corroded the edges and bleached out the composite handles. Don't do that to your Muk, IB!

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Wow, where do you live!? I am bringing knives over and we will eat meat. Done like a pro! I can't really see any difference in the blade other than color, but it's probably coz the focus is off.

Enjoy every sandwich.

you think that looks good, check out my 'private reserve' rack. Cooked right along side, but not for public. Moped hourly in the smoker with a solution of about 40% butter, 10% olive oil, 35% apple juice, 15% spiced Capt. Morgans Rum
