Guys I want/need to buy a new utility folding knife. I work in federal law enforcement, so it will be a tool first, but needs to be ok as a backup weapon also (god help me if it comes to that). I want a 3-4 inch blade and I would like to spend $75-150. It comes in out of my pocket so much that I don’t want to hurt me too much if it was misplaced or lost. I’ve listed below a few I am considering. Lone Wolf looks really nice, nice steel, but costs the most. Benchmade looks like a quality buy for the price. ZT costs a little more for the same steel as the Benchmade but looks like a tank, but unfortunately has a tanks weight too (7.7 oz)

Benchmade 580 Barrage.- 154cm steel -84$

Zero Tolerance 0200- Blade: 154CMN Stainless-steel, Tungsten DLC coating -$127

Lone Wolf Harsey T2 Tactical Folder 3.9" S30V Blade Black Nylon Handle- $154

Any other recommendations? Advice?

these quality dogs/rats are killing my interests in folders...but how about spydercos? you can get a lot of knife in that price range

that being said, I think my SS4 will scare any folder to death! great small blade!

I would go for the ZT, but I personally like a beefy knife. From what I hear those ZT's are almost as good as a Strider!

Enjoy every sandwich.

The Spyderco Military, police model, or even the Endura should work. The Benchmade Dejavoo is nice, too.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I like the Buck Strider Tarani with ATS-34 and SB4 that I got a little while back. I also like the Benchmade Griptilian blades.

Saying that, I am starting to loose interest in folders lately too!

There are just so many high quality folders available, it's hard to pick one. The Federal Law Enforement Training Center is here in Brunswick, GA. Many of the students and instructors here purchase Benchmades from a local gun dealer near FLETC. Since I want to be as well equipped as they are, I check in occasionally to buy ammo and see what the latest fad is in cutlery, firearms, and ammo for the Feds. Power to the people!

why isn't the spyderco endura on that list? it's the best.

i have a ZT 0200. you do not want to carry that knife all the time and the usefulness of that wide, curvy blade is very limited. endura smokes it in every respect at half the price.

the spyderco tenacious also smokes it at $30.

Huh? I mentioned the Endura. It is just a super all-around folder.

http://www.bladehq.com/item--Al-Mar-Sere-Automatic--2481

Al Mar is a high quality very sharp and reliable knife company. The S.E.R.E. in side opening auto is a great choice as well. It is made by Benchmade in this model and weighs only 5.1 oz. Made from S30V it is some of the highest quality made steel in the market today.

Priced at your high end ... well you get what you pay for.

That link will lead you to many other fine knives full auto, side opening, and manual openers.

Good luck in your quest.

Peace.

If your going for a good blade for a good price, you have to check out the Ontario Rat-1. I love it.
