People joke about—or criticize—knives for being “sharpened prybars”. Wauseon blades come in for more than their share of that trashing. My Dumpster Mutt Combat Grade is a knife that really deserves that label. For a soldier this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. A compact blade that really can serve as a prybar, digging tool, chopper, or to chip through a wall and make a firing port is no bad tool to take to the ‘Stans.

What it is not is a delicate slicer suitable for bushcraft use. If I was carrying the DMCG into the hot dry hostile places, I’d look for a good quality slicer and make them a pair. I’d find something like the Busse BAD, and have Jeff make a piggyback sheath that carried them both. You’d have the benefits of your prybar and the slicing capacity of a skinny acute edge in one compact package.

Very good thoughts Implume.. What about the SR warden instead of the Busse knife you mentioned? But thats a great idea.

In case you aren’t up on the lingo, BAD means the Bony Active Duty. It’s a 1/8” thick, 3 ½” long blade. Until recently they were available from the Company Store.

I’ve never handled a Swamp Warden, but lots of people love them. I expect it would be a good choice.

The SW and DMCG, would make a pretty good combo. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

The DMCG certainly has earned it's place among preferred blades for certain purposes. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

After supper I will take a few pics of
my CGDM and Swamp Warden to show you the difference
in blade thickness.
Also show you the penetrator tip on mine.

Here is my CGDM next to my swamp warden

Here they are looking down on the edge.
I should have taken a normal spine shot but duh...
[Linked Image from i472.photobucket.com]
and finally here is my attempt at a close up of the penetrator tip.

No problem taking the pics!
I need to make a light box and get a few correct
lights so the pics come out better.

The Dumpster Mutt,
I just got it recently.
I got quite a few recently and havent
really used any of them yet.
I am here in Chicago, not much of a chance
using them here. I bought them for camping trips
I take in summer with my son.
The smaller knives, like the Swamp Warden,Game Warden
Mud Puppy and Active Duty I have carried and used as
for work.
The only knives I have that might remain "safe queens" are the
2 SFNO LE's I bought last year.
I think your gonna love that DM!
If I were you,as SOON as you get it,take it outside and
chop something up.... MAKE it a used, otherwise
your gonna think "should I or shouldnt I" till dooms day. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Andy - who made that kydex sheath you have up there for the DMCG? does it rub the finish off? it looks not to fit it too tightly... amd i correct? how is rainwalker's kydex? i want something that isnt too tight on the blade but yet still keeps it there, ya know

It was made by Leatherface. He hasn’t posted here in a long time. His page is on my sig link under sheath makers (Azrael’s Custom Leather). My knives are users, so it’s kinda hard to tell if there’s finish wear. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Rainwalker is great as you know, you can’t lose. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I worked with the DMCG enough to get a feel for what I had. I’m no fan of the small Busse Basic handle. The small Res-C grips that are standard on a lot of Scrap Yard knives work better for me. Though even they could be made bigger, to fit my gnarly tradesman's hands.

I stored the DMCG in my urban emergency bag. It hasn’t seen a lot of use because I haven’t encountered any dangerous urban emergencies. Which is just the way I like it.

Since I got a sheath for my Dumpster Mutt Double Cut. I’ve considered pulling the DMCG from my urban bag and replacing it with the DMDC. The Double Cut is not as good a railroad spike, but it is still plenty tough. It also has a full flat grind and cuts better. On the other hand, I always have pocket knives with me that can cut. So far I’ve let the DMCG keep its place.

i think the GGDM would be the knife i would choose to take to war.that or the BATAC.

its mainly do to the size.the S6 would be a little bigger than what i would want but thats just me.the S6 also has a very fine tip.prying would be an important task i would think and that fine, thin tip might get hurt, even though its SR77.

is the dumpstermutt the nastiest slicer and dicer out there??...NO.but thats not what you take to war anyways.bring a spyderco or something maybe for fine cutting tasks to accompany the mutt.

the dumpstermutt does a superb job for what it was designed to be and thats a 100% sharpened prybar and it will still cut too.just read the write up on it on the home page here on the scrapyard site.in short here it is:

"We mated them with a bomb-proof, door-breaching blade that our our troops have been dreaming of and put a penetrator tip on this nearly 5/16" thick sabre ground hybrid Mutt. This combat hungry little pit bull is specifically designed for heavy military use and abuse, and will not be happy sitting at home in a drawer."

while a thin bladed slicer can really only excel in one thing and thats fine cutting a knife like the mutt can cut plenty well enough but also excel in other tasks from prying,stabbing,hammering,so-on and so-on.

good choice.whether you carry the CGDM or S6 in the field will probably depend on how much gear you go out there weighted down with.you cant loose either way.

i dont own one myself but i would prefer the extended butt/pomel of the BATAC and the INFI.its probably as tough as the mutt but cuts better, gets sharp easier and stays sharper longer.

good luck
