I usually have a beard, but have always wondered about a straight razor...but I dont really trust myself to use it.

I havent bought a can of shaving cream in 4 years. I just use a disposable or a mach 3. Out of shower, wet face with water, shave. Luckily I only shave my neck and the very top of the beard line.

Now I am wondering about these though...

Who needs a strait razor...

Just sharpen up that Dog Father, Tyger, and shave Dundee style!

I think I just stick with the cheap disposable razors myself...

Barney Fife watching a jaywalker.
No way would I let him hold a straight razor to my neck!

LMAO!

I had been skipping this post. But, that made the stop by worth it.

I wouldn't let someone like that shave me either. Honestly, I don't know how good I would feel about "ANYONE" other than myself approaching my face and neck with a VERY sharp long razor.

I am curious, but I don't know that I want to plunk down $100 + just to see if I like it or not.

I actually use both electric and triple blade disposables.

I first shave with the electric. But, I hate trying to get those last few stragglers with the electric and it is not as close a shave.

If I shave with disposable only, the grab and pull more than I like, but if I knock out about 90% with electric real fast, then finish with disposable, I get (for me) the best of both worlds. After first shaving with electric, the remaining hairs shave fast and smooth.

I actually shave with my disposable in the shower. It seems faster and easier to me - plenty of hot water, face soap, etc. I use a mirror with electric razor prior to showering for just around my ears/sideburn areas. But, I don't need a mirror for disposable razor in the shower.

.

I've never shaved or been shaved w/an oldschool razor. Seems like it would pull the hair, ouch.

No, it doesn't pull the hair. In fact, there is no better shave in the world than a straight razor! I'm serious, you really should try it. If there is an old barber in your area at a "real" Barber Shop. stop by and let him give you a shave with a straight razor. You'll be wanting to purchase one soon after!

There is a gentlemens shave shop they opened here in Houston (Gentlemen's Tonic) I will have to try it. Friend in turkey says I need to try a fire shave!

Years ago it was common in the barber shops to get a shave with a straight razor. I wouldn't trust many of today's barbers to do it right. My mother's father almost never shaved himself. He went to the barber on Saturdays and got a shave. He was an interesting grandfather. He was a hunter and outdoorsman to the end.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I used a cut-throat razor all through my adolescence. It worked great, until I grew a beard.

Strop daily. Hone often.

I don’t remember for sure, but I think my hone may have been a smooth Arkansas stone. It had a leather strop glued on the back.

My local barber used to give fantastic straight razor shaves for $5.00 back in 1995.
But since pressure from many groups most of all A.I.D.S. from a infected person whom by through by chance contract A.I.D.S. the barber stopped.

Since then I have had my hair cut from Beauty Salons to Wal Mart and no one up North will shave due to A.I.D.S. Fear of dying got to them here.

I do miss that shave. For me it was a spa treatment. Hot towel, so hot you could almost scream. Just then hot shaving cream was applied, and then the scraping of the face. Almost ritualistic.

Very heady experience. I miss it. And if I ever travel South and find a barber still offering to do it,I'll pony up in a instant!

The new "Vision" shaver with "Vibro-Tech" is my current favorite. And Babrasol Regular shaving cream.

Peace.

Burma shave used to have six-sign adds that you’d read in sequence along the road.

E.G.:
Within this vale / Of toil / And sin / Your head grows bald / But not your chin - use / Burma-Shave

Or:
A peach / Looks good / With lots of fuzz / But man's no peach / And never wuz / Burma-Shave

Or:
I proposed / To Ida / Ida refused / Ida won my Ida / If Ida used / Burma-Shave

And the truly dreadful:
My job is / Keeping faces clean / And nobody knows / De stubble / I've seen / Burma-Shave
