finally got around to attaching the micarta on my pikal. i did this one from beginning to end on my own and it's much harder then Ban makes it look. it still feels a bit blocky in my hands so I need to thin and round the corners some. great learning experience, the next one should go a lot smoother.

I like that blade and the micarta. Are you going to treat the micarta with anything to make the layers jump out more?

I still have some more shaping to do before I finish so I'm not sure how to leave the micarta. The way it is right now is hand smoothed with 120 grit sandpaper, I could go higher but I like the tackiness, or I could try oil. I have a leftover piece of micarta I can experiment with and see what I like.

Wow! That is inspiring. I like to tinker a lot and now I'm starting to get the itch to make my own knife. Where is a good place to get some good steel to start with?

Great job Mr. Pink. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> How do you do your plunge lines? Do you start them with a file and guide or just on the belt grinder? Just curious. I just finished my first knife and am starting my second one - I found the plunge to be the hardest part.

Good work!!!

southstar: i order my A-2 from KBC Tools, but you can get O-1, D-2, 154CM, S30V from Pop's.

knotslip: I found some thick rectangular washers in my garage and just taped it where I want the plunge to begin, it acts as a stop/rest. As for the rest of the plunge line, it appears naturally as you thin down the blade.

So no files? Just use the washers as a guide for the belt grinder?
