from what I think has been established here on the forums... the YD/TH isn't the best chopper.

I'm thinking the SOD will outchop it even at a lighter weight.

they are both going to be tough as nail though.
you mayb be able to get a YH or YG cheaper though.
(idk really)

I would def. go with the SOD.

Now to play devil's advocate, the recurve is sweet looking!

Devil! I never could figure out why my Yard Guard or Yard Hook didn't chop as well as the Camp Tramp, even with convex edges. The SOD LE and Camp Tramp seem to chop pretty closely to me.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

If you can get both, do so.

Once you decide which you like best, send the other to my PO Box. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Seriously, you need the tool in your hand to properly evaluate. You can always get your money back (or close) re-selling on a forum.

I have a Yard Guard, which is why I didn't buy the SOD. I've used it to chop roots, and have struck my share of gravel, and it's still in great shape. Other knives may chop better, but I have a thing for recurves.

To each their own! If you are happy with it, then THAT'S what is important! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I have a Yard Hook and the SOD. I like the look of the Hook.....it just looks deadly! But if I was to take only one with me it would be the SOD. I feel it is a little better in regards to doing all tasks that you may encounter in the field. Just my 2 cents.

Both are great knives, but I gotta say... the SOD LE gets my vote. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
