I think the price of the SAR4 at $397 plus shipping which is the same as the HG55 LE needs to be reviewed with the prices for comparable INFI knives size wise on the secondary market....the BAIII, the Tanker A, the SHBA, these knives are fetching around $700 on the secondary market...and compared directly to the HG55 LE it has more machining on the rounded spine and is only .5 inch smaller blade.
But the blade has advantages for me over the HG55 LE in that it is .22 thick and not .25 so it is lighter and more suitable for all round use....and whilst I would agree an INFI S5 LE would be more attractive size and shape wise...I am unsure that getting INFI cleared will happen...but if so and if Dan can bring it at the price indicated it will be a very sought after knife...maybe the most sought after ever...so competition for them will be pretty intense...

There are a lot of new dogs and even old ones who are infrequent visitors though who will be up for this one.....but in principal I can sympathise with your view....

The SAR4 LE price is for the LE model. I see threads comparing it's price to previous CG Infi prices. The SJTAK LE was $427 several years ago. The LE NMSFNA was $697. I think the SAR4 LE price is right in keeping with previous LE releases. And Yes they were expensive also. But the point is I do not see any "inflation" in pricing for Infi LE models. Does anyone know what the LE BATAK was? Similar size, less work.Ron Athay

I am not someone who would splash out on LE's normally as I will probably end up getting them bead blasted but the ones I now own are a SFNO LE and the SAR4 LE has been ordered. The SFNO LE was actually a LOT cheaper than the CG Sabre's coming up in the exchange....these were circa $650-$700 and the SFNO LE was $450 or thereabouts...the SAR4 LE I think will be a great compliment knife to the heavier SFNO LE...they will make a nice pairing...and in time I think they are likely to go up in value...
If you allow for the HOG discount price on the SFNO LE's they are probably the best VFM LE's ever done....they were cheaper than the ASH LE which came out at $495....

Although they were a little out of my reach, I hope that everyone who wanted one got their SAR4. It's a good-looking small blade! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I posted this same thing elsewhere...
The overall length of the SAR4 is the same as the HG55, ergo the same price. 10 3/4". $397. Granted, the thickness is slightly less, but the SAR4 is going to appeal to more folks than the HG55 (which I did not buy).

I think the pricing is pretty much in line with past offerings. Take into consideration that the ASH-1 LE was $497, and it was a 12" overall knife.

I think folks here may be comparing this one to the SFNO LE, but that's not a fair comparison. The $427 was a HOG-only special price. Marketing scheme? Well probably, given that nearly anyone who could spell Busse got "inducted." However, had that SFNO release been priced in line with past LE's, it would have been more in the $550 to $600 range.
