If you're afraid of upsetting the neighbors with the noise of a gun, a homemade snare or store bought spring trap can be mighty effective... as long as there aren't wandering pet cats in the neighborhood <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Heck, even a live catch trap and a quiet relocation of the critter in question can be a good workaround.

This thread inspired me to get off my butt and get my garden planted. I've got five varieties of peppers, green beans, corn, spinach, broccoli, squash, sweet onions, 'maters, and carrots planted. Lets see if the grubs and rabbits let some of them grow this year.

I know my friend who was having problems with squirrels in his bird feeder started shooting them from his window with a little red ryder BB gun (he lives in PA) and although it probably didn't really harm them... I guess they learned a lesson, because he hasn't seen them for a whole year now.

Anyway, I wouldn't try to maintain a garden because of the squirrels, but I can certainly see your point about that rabbit.

That's because squirrels taste like crap. Rabbits are MUCH yummier <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Squirrels taste great if prepared right! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I love a good tree rat from time to time! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

They say they taste like what they eat...so they taste like insulation, shingles and wire? Lol, I hear they do taste good.

Jack Rabbits here can get very big but they are always tick and worm infested.

If the raccoon gets to be a problem just go to the local rental center and rent a live trap, bait it with a can of cat food and you will have that little bugger the first night. You can drown it quietly and not offend the lady next door, or you can take it for a long ride and release it somewhere nice so it will find a better home. No muss and little fuss. I live in the woods and have one to trap the pesky critters that sometimes prowl around at night (mostly skunks and porcupines) the raccoons around here seem to prefer the suburbs instead of the more rural areas it seems. More garbage cans per square mile I think. One of the guys at work has borrowed it and has single handedly captured 20-30 feral cats from his place, hauls them to the shelter and drops them in the feral cat cage they keep out front. I wonder if they end up at the Chinese restaurant?

I have my Henry loaded with CB caps. There was a lot of shooting going on around here this weekend. I think my gun hating neigbor is so outnumbered by shooters out here now, that I will resume using 22s when necessary. Got out the old Ruger today. I need to confirm the zero.

Have you guys tried the Aguila Colibri? I had a couple possum that were causing hell several years ago in the alley. Living where I was at I decided to try them. At the time I had one of the cheap Romanian trainers that had the leaf rear sights set up for 25, 50, and 75 yds. At 25 yds the 75 sight was used and dead on. The Colibri did just fine on the possums too.
