The reason my friend found a CT is because he was looking for a SOD. He loves it and I hope we will have that chop-off soon. Right now the MUK and SOD are with me when I can get out. In fact, I think this weekend I might plan a little over night trip.

Since I don't do a lot of hiking anymore I like to carry a larger knife, but I ALWAYS have my C.S. X2 Voyager and one or two smaller pocket knives as well.

I might have a fixed blade on my hip or in my pack. I always have a folder in my pocket, usually either the Victorinox Farmer or OHT (One Hand Trekker).

For camp chores I have a new appreciation for the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe. I took it out this weekend and it is a chopping machine. A knife is still much more versatile and if you have access to only one light-weight tool then pick a knife. To live in the life of luxury, add a small axe and saw to your gear.

Loving the CT and all but the SOD should out chop the CT. The SOD is heavier and just a tac longer than the CT. There is a lot more to a camping knife than just chopping tho so you be the judge

JYD #84 This is my rifle, and that is my SHTF Busse knife.

Lately my combination has been a Ka-Bar Becker Necker lashed to the strap of my pack, and a Ka-Bar Heavy Bowie on the back of the pack. I don't like big knives on my hip when I'm carrying a pack, so I keep the bigger one on the back, since I only plan to be using it around camp anyways.

I've carried other combinations, but I generally like a knife large enough to baton with, and a smaller knife for the rest of the chores. I'll occasionally throw a folder in my pocket, too - often some sort of spyderco.

I'm hoping my combo will soon be a scrapper 5 and then maybe something a bit bigger, depending on what deals I can find. And maybe the becker necker will stay on the pack strap, 'cause I really like that little knife.

Chopping is for an axe...

I wouldn't want to lug an axe through 10-20 miles of backwoods, a knife packs so much easier. Ok guys, post pics of the largest tree you cut down with your knife, here's the largest I've done so far:

Thats a huge tree Andy!!! How long did it take you to chop through it? How big around was it?

I know this much I would rather have an ax if I were having to make a semi to perm shelter. Besides that, the SOD is great right now. However, I sure would like to try a DF or a Battle Mistress!
