i'm surprised this one hasnt come up yet.the biggest difference is obviously the micarta vs. the res-c mudders although i dont really know the exact specs for both but they both got 5in blades and are of the same steel which is my 2nd favorite hard use knife steel behind INFI.

i personally think i might like the protruding tang and micarta of the HRLM better but i wont know until i get a S5 in my hands.res-c just doesnt have the life of micarta.it can get worn down, gouged, cut, whatever.the res-c on my DFLE is smooth as butter and has small chunks missing from it.

its all my fault but micarta is just tougher.

the S5 is one hell of a knife though for sure.

i sold my hrlm because i didnt like the weight of it...for a knife that small to weigh that much is too much for me. also my hands didnt feel good on the grips i got big hands and i could never get the right grip on it. actually the SAR4 handle design looks slightly close to the HRLM. other than that it is a GREAT knife! it has more knife than the HR and less belly.

how did you get chunks of res-c missing?

Bet it wasn't by sitting in a safe or on the shelf.

Micarta is some tough stuff!

I've tried in the past to find out just how much abuse it'll take... it surprised me.

I like both Res-C and Micarta, they've both got their strengths.

Canvas micarta is bombproof, linen is very tough but can dent, paper can chip.

You save a lot of weight with the ResC and it is very comfy for chopping. If I had to pick an end of the world knife it would be micarta over ResC but other than that I love my ResC.

Regarding the HRLM, a lot of folks love that knife but I didn't keep mine as it was (1) heavy for the blade length and (2) the semi-choil bothered me as it was too small to be useful yet too large for a sharpening choil.

Same here. S5 looks MUCH better IMO. I liked the idea of the smaller, rounded choil on the S5, but if we are talking HRLM small, then noooo way.

So why are we comparing the Scrapper 5 with the 4" HRLM? The SY equivalent would be the Yard Keeper. I am anxious to compare the S5 to the Ratmandu.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
