I am not a Texan, but if they succeed in maintaining some independence, I may become one. So far, Georgia has remained tolerable. The whole foundation of this republic was Federalism. Since the War Between the States, more and more power has been concentrated in Washington. My great great grand parents lived in Tennessee then, but supported the Union. Now the central government is out of control. Let the States be different. Let those who love high taxes and no gun rights stay in their oppressive States and let freedom lovers stay in theirs. Let each State decide the level of social welfare it deems best and get rid of it at the national level. Abolish the IRS and the income tax and replace it with a national sales tax and tariffs. Gimme a T for Texas and a T for Tennessee! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Go to the Texas Governors website and you can listen to Perry speak about keeping our independence. I bet that blew some hair back in Washington.
If you come to Texas be prepared to fight off the Mexicans though. It seems they want Tejas back.

WE CAN NOT HAVE ALL OF THE ILLEGAL ALIENS. We can't afford to support them. Also, I can't agree with legalizing drugs. I worked in a medical clinic for three years and I could never legalize drugs. Besides, you can't take something away once it has been given. We need to think very hard about giving something before we do.

Lord knows that many have ruined their lives on drugs and alcohol, but this "war on drugs" just isn't working any better than prohibition did. I say legalize marijuana and tax it. In almost any such controversy, my default position is freedom.

i was VERY happy to read about that bill in Texas! I read the bill and it states VERY valid points. http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/tlodocs/81R/billtext/html/HC00050I.htmas for legalization of current controlled substances....marijuana should at least be decriminalized...legal and taxed id say not even in my lifetime. the deal with drugs is that they make too much money to be legal and the people who would loose their jobs enforcing the laws dont want to. think of ALL the resources that get used to fight the WAR ON DRUGS...what if there was no war? history has shown that wars make money. in the 70s and 80s hawaii had a lot of local marijuana(weed) being grown. the DLNR shut down alot of the grow ops with a program called "Green Harvest". little did they know since weed was so hard to get people learned about meth and ever since the mid 80s meth has been on the rise in hawaii. now its an epidemic. we have a saying in hawaii "cook rice, not ice". thanks to green harvest my islands on ice! but back to texas...i think its great those [censored] feds got their hands in everyones pot and keep stirring it. im glad it is a GREAT state like texas ot make the first stand. my hats off to texas!
