I like the Trail Hawk. Their a nice light axe to carry around or throw in a BOB, and their fun to throw also, every once in a while I get out in the yard with the kids and we practice throwing at a 4x4 block of Styrofoam, lots of fun!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I have the norse hawk, trail hawk and rifleman's hawk.
The best mod you can do is take the handle off, then use sandpaper to smooth out the imperfections on the inside of the eye.
This helps to keep the handle from breaking

Putting the longer handle on the Trail Hawk really changes everything, and is my number one mod/suggestion for the Trail Hawk. It really balances out nicely and you can get some serious deep cuts with the extra length/momentum. If you go to buy the longer handle... it's the handle for the "War Hammer" and is 30" long (you can buy it by itself).
My next suggestion is removing the coating... in general I hate coatings as they act like sandpaper (slowing me down). With my first Trail Hawk I was gonna strip the finish but I've pretty much taken/worn it off from use. Here's a youtube video showing some of the versatility/utility of one:

It seems as though the "set-screw" really limits you in these applications, it looks cool when people weld them in..... I just left mine open.

If you cut the hammer poll of off the rifleman's hawk, you really improve it's balance and feel

I sanded and stained the haft and would like to strip and patina the head someday

WOW!
Just noticed this thread/topic is 2 years old. Wonder what BAWB ended up getting?
james bond,
Nice finish on the handle... out of curiosity what process/materials? Sand first, gel, stain etc.
